How would you update my new home?

We just purchased our home and would like to update the front. I want it to feel more transitional and maybe slightly coastal but not lose the traditional roots. I think the pediment, the lighting, the shutters, and maybe

the cornice date the home. I really do not want to paint the brick because there are several house just on our street that have recently been painted. I’m envisioning some type of hip roof portico and porch across the front possibly (if thats the right term?) (New plantings to come after any construction is finished.) I’m open to any ideas you may have. thank you!

Pretty! One of my favorites is your brick with some black and white…classic. The red door doesn’t work for me. White or black would be nice. Also black light fixtures.

If possible, I’d also consider simplifying the little circular window by removing the 4 “extensions.” I’d like it with just the round, white trim.

a light sage green trim and shutters would compliment the brick color.

a contemporary railing, like a cable system.

I do like the brass fixtures.

a Green/Blue door, in the aqua colors would freshen it up.

This Tarrytown Green (Benjamin Moore) on my brother and sister-in-law’s house can also work nicely with brick. Nice with white trim.

I think more of a hip roof portico would change it for the better. It would not necessarily have to be this style with the corbel supports.

A black-and-white theme is classic and traditional for you house. But a green will give it a bit more personality. Either sage or deep evergreen would look great with your brick. Do the shutters and door the same color.

Can the white extensions of the circular window come off? I had the same thought as @chloebud.

Thank you! All fantastic suggestions here. The extensions on the circircular window are stone that are built “into” the brick and can’t (easily) be removed.

The classic brick design is the one I really like about your home. If you could change your door color toeither black orblue, I think I'll be wonderful.

Jazz up your landscaping plan with hardscape and perennials that will mature at the right adult size for your area. That will give you an appropriate frame and welcome mat for your beautiful home without turning you into a full time gardener.

This is decorating rich. The plant around the entry door in my area would be a creeping fig. It sits very close to the brick and requires almost no upkeep. Much better than Ivy. You can also buy panels of fake ivy online That I’ve seen faux ivy used on multi million dollar homes. The tortoise trim is a surprising, almost like patina.

I’d get rid of the Nandinas(?) that are away from the house. They kinda of interrupt the flow. The landscaping or large potted plants in Chloebud’s photo are really attractive and would look good on your house IMO
