Agreed, Japanese beetle. There are bait traps w/bags that are very effective in reducing their numbers... if the trap is placed about 20-30' away from the plants being protected. During the peak period last year, I was emptying the traps daily, with 100+ beetles per trap.

Agree with the above, and there are probably other critters involved too. Ipomoea leaves usually have at least 2-3 different things munching on them. Check the backs of leaves for caterpillars.

That's an especially pretty one with the so-purple leaves!
