open, empty space

I’ve been chipping away at the guest bedroom and there’s this open space that I’m unsure of what to do there. Looking for suggestions!

A nice comfortable chair (with ottoman) for guests to sit and read.

How about a desk for a workspace? My guests are often working remotely when visiting.

Long braced shelf like this for laptop work. Add charging station and attractive magnification mirror for guests to put on makeup and fix hair. The space at the end of the room can be for setting down luggage. Most of our guests come from a night or two, so I have a little desk for the laptop, attractive rolling office chair similar to one shown below. A couple luggage racks for overnight bags make it possible not to unpack.

Re-posting this to help you get the best advice. More pix are definitely needed, and for context a designer can't do much to help with a bedroom when the bed isn't even shown. See below!

I think for now I'd remove everything on the wall and then re-post with some measurements. I'd probably like a small desk and a comfortable chair with a reading light. Too many questions, though....is there a dresser, what does the bed look like, etc. At some point the room might benefit from a nice rug when you've figured out your bedding, etc.

I just posted pics of the area I wanted advice on. Many times on here, you ask for one thing and people focus on something else. I’ll post more pictures if it’s helpful to some. But I’m only looking for advice for the area originally mentioned in the post. Not bed linens, placement, headboard, etc.

@Thanks, decoenthusiaste. It's frustrating when DD posters show one picture that they identify as the problem area. If we saw the entire room, it's possible placing the bed on the "problem wall" would solve the Dilemma. No way of knowing because there's not enough information. I'm going to bump up my old thread. I do that when I get two DD in a day with one photo.

This would be a really beautiful workspace if you need a home office. Adding a large rug under whatever furniture you do decide to place there will really help fill the room and make it seem more complete!

Put a sofa. I've always appreciated that in a guest room!

I would nab 2 comfy chairs off FB Marketplace, then add an ottoman and small side tables for coffee etc

@la_la Girl i love that idea! Also love the sofa suggestions.
    Thanks!

If you get a comfy sleeper sofa it would add options for your guests. Maybe a family with small children or college friends traveling together wouldn’t mind sharing the room if there were another bed option.

While the stretched photos are deceiving as to size and scale, bed placement is a major issue, IMO. Center the bed between the electrical outlets on that wall and regroup some of the baskets (minus the mirror and disconnected trio of items right of that) above it. The convenient outlets can work well for a pair of corded wall sconces flanking the bed. Perhaps the mirror and two wall sconces can be hung to the right of the drawers and recess. Do you need a mirror above the desk/dresser by the window? Hang the double basket between the entry door and what I guess is the bathroom door. Then the current bed corner becomes a sweet seating spot with a pair of comfy armchairs, table and lamp and a small accent rug. Here's a chart to help you anchor the bed with a larger rug. Maybe your runner would work in the hallway.

Happy to help! Would love to see pix when you get things sorted.

What a unique room. Lots of options. Definitely show us when finished.

The mirror on the problem wall doesn't work there. Try it between the two doors, placed lower. I like to have a mirror in a bedroom; it's just out of place where it is now. If it were somewhere else it would be useable. After you decide what to place on the wall in question you might need to rearrange the other objects on the wall currently so they relate to what's underneath.

That really helps. So I'd do a larger rug, bedskirt, don't bother with a desk if this is just for visitors. Do you have electric by your little desk area? That would be great for guests as a little charging station. The only thing I think you need in furniture is a nice loveseat or comfy chair with a good reading light (if this is just for guests). Great room. I agree with kandrewspa if you get a couch you might just have to slightly rearrange your wall stuff.

Here are some updated photos of the progress!
I still need to get a throw and some accent pillows for the mini sofa and a bed skirt bc I don’t like how short the comforter is. I’ll also hang a plant from the ceiling behind the sofa.

Progress! Looking better! Looks like you may have room for some bedside tables if the camera isn't on pano. I suggest you forget a bedskirt; they're designed to slip between mattress and box spring, and I'm guessing your mattress has no box spring. Better to get a bedspread that falls to the floor. We finally removed all the bedskirts at our vacation rental cabin because they were a dated look and were troublesome to deal with. Please try to loosen up the basket arrangement, overlapping some of them and not being lined up in such a soldierly manner.

Hi... Your room is natural with wood, and basket textures, so I can see the burlap skirt. If the comforter has sheen, idk if it's ideal with it.

I would second the night stand need, with a small lamp for reading and or just illumination getting to the bed after dark.

Your initial post had bed on other wall...? I think it's still ok - could that open wall have sofa, and a chair, and end table.

To me, guest room becomes their studio apartment, and I picture all the seating, living room, as you walk in: sofa, the metal chair, and window seat.

Thanks everyone, the new layout I posted is the one I’m sticking without I’m happy with the room and furniture items. I just need those last few details and I’ll be happy!

One more idea; since you're not doing a pair of chairs, can you put the sofa against one of the walls so you can hang the mirror and sconces above it?

Sherez, ignore if you like and I chuckle at myself - but the height is adjustable! BB Beyond. Seems a 'go with' leather ottoman, etc.

To help if I can, cause I have retirement time, to shop: "slim profile side table that supplies power, charges devices, and holds drinks."
