The grays looking too blue is my main concern. I had decided to go with Gray Screen and then saw reviews that it looks baby blue in some light. Ugh. Absolutely do not want a navy/baby blue combo kitchen.

In my experience, Gray Screen does read pale blue/gray in a northern light.

@ptreckel That is helpful. The kitchen is next to a sun room with southern exposure so maybe it won’t be as bad. I’ll keep an eye out this afternoon when the natural light is at its peak.

Here is Gray Screen painted on the walls mid-day with a large slider to the right (north) and smaller window to the right (south). In our light, it doesn't read baby blue but it definitely has a blue tinge to the gray.

I think it's OK if it is a little blue since that would help it go with the perimeter cabinets. How does it look with the floor in the kitchen?

I think it looks okay with the flooring. It is a warmer medium brown, but has some gray as well. But I’m obviously terrible at this stuff based on the first comment…..

I've tried to superimpose your color scheme on the photo of your room. What made you decide to select the intense blue for the cabinets?

Maybe all the base cabinets including the island should be blue and the upper cabinets the coordinating white color of the countertops?

I think you have the option to paint all the cabinets blue since the countertops and backsplashes are the white quartz color.

Thank you for the photos. The countertop has navy veining, which is where the blue cabinet idea came from. We decided the we wanted blue, but to lean darker so that it played more neutral. The overall decor of the house is done in a more coastal pallet so I thought the navy would work.
I do have concerns that it will be too dark, but was hoping the light island would help with that.
I’m open to suggestions on both paint colors, but the counters and tile are purchased so I’d need to stay with something in the blue or gray family.

Maybe leave the island in the same wood tone was you flooring to break up the white and blue?

I wouldn’t add any gray at all. If you want to change the island, paint it blue or navy or white.

the other way is going to be heavy. darker color on the island.

or, you could do all white uppers, Hale Navy on the lowers/island:

If you do like this, I suggest the white hood and some open shelving, or some glass in your uppers

You need to update your lighting. it's too yellow/warm. I can tell from this pic because your white cabs have a yellowish hue to them.

try some 4000K LED bulbs

and please, hold off on the backsplash until the countertop is installed.

Cant tell if these are white or a pale blue gray. I love the darker gray wall color w/it though. consider this option for your walls.

If you like, choose a light blue/gray color for ALL of the cabinets Seattle Gray might be nice

The man of the house is opposed to having white cabinets like 75% of houses. The current cabinets aren’t true white. They are a yellow toned off-white, which I find truly awful. They just look dirty or like someone has been smoking in the house for 20 years. I can totally see that updated bulbs could help brighten the whole space.
The counters will be installed next week so that will give a better idea on how heavy any of the other colors will be.

are you having those cabs painted or getting new, refaced?

This is a slightly coastal vibe. love the woven loom chairs, the walls, the lighting and some of the open shelving. (a natural oak shelf would look equally nice)

the Batik color is the wrong shade for this style kitchen.

try getting a sample of the Hale Navy.

What if you did all the navy on the lowers/island, and the uppers in white? on that smaller bank of uppers, remove the middle and do glass, like shown here

or, on this photo, instead of the white, do the very pale blue gray and the hale navy (shown here) on the island. accent w/gold hardware and lights

could you take down a bank of those uppers and do some wood shelving?

I think it would look really nice. you seem to have ample storage. even if you took down 2 of the uppers and did shelving, it would leave you plenty of storage

I’m not a pro, but a blue kitchen with a white quartz countertop sounds gorgeous. I would leave the island white, whichever white complements the new countertop. Don’t pick a backsplash until your kitchen is fully done (with lighting) so you can assess what type of backsplash will complement the room.

I think blue is bold and a happy color. Lots of kitchens are being painted strong deep greens, so why not your beautiful blue?

I think several people here often have great ideas, but in this case, I’m voting with you and your husband for a blue kitchen.

The cabinets are just being painted/resurfaced. Refacing was going to be $30K with limited color options and paint is $4k. I would love to completely change the cabinet style to shaker or similar, but it isn’t in the budget.
The 4” of extra counter up the wall will be gone. I think the contractor is partial to Benjamin Moore, but SW has always been my go to. Hale Navy may be a good blue to try.

Make the island white, not gray no matter which blue you use. Hale Navy can be matched by SW if you prefer it.

where on earth did you get a 30K estimate for refacing?? that's ridiculous. that's like 1K per door and drawer! come on. You could buy all NEW kitchen cabinets for half that price. (wasn't home depot was it? never ever go through them for stuff like this) Are you sure they said 30K? why limited color options? when you reface, you get raw wood doors/drawers that are ready to paint.

I also have to question the 4K price tag to paint all of those cabinets. That is extremely cheap for the amount of work your cabinets will take. (or was that for refacing and painting those doors? ) Maybe i'm confused?

I do a lot of painting of furniture and have done kitchen cabs 3 diff times. however, i didn't want to tackle my own.

So I hired a kitchen cab company who specializes in painting and remodels. he has 5 stars on all his reviews. I wanted all these painted, orante molding removed, drawers made for the island, custom hood vent made, microwave moved below wall oven, desk shelves covered w/doors, and a few other things. That estimate was 11K.

For another 2K, I was able to get all new doors and drawers (off to the left I have a large double pantry) All of these were solid maple, 45 degree beveled shaker rails/stiles (easy to clean) and mdf center panels. 2K for all of those? heck yeah. because if you notice, I have slab drawers on all of the uppers. I wanted all the drawers to be the same.

going on 4 years. they still look like the day I got them.

everything went back to their shop for spraying. (pre-cat laquer) Here's what the spraying at the house looked like

I used SW 6232 Misty on my perimeter cabinets - a good blue gray - and SW 9179 Anchors Aweigh on my island - a deep rich navy. I have butcher block on the island

Hi Beth - it was in fact Home Depot. I wasn’t seriously considering refacing due to budget, but I figured I would let them give me a quote. It was $29K and change or $26K for a 10% discount if I signed on the spot. Colors were limited because of the colors of the laminate they cover the cabinets boxes with. It was a crazy price to me which is why I told them to go away.

The cabinet refinishing/painting is between $4000 and $4500 from two separate, reputable quotes. They would do the process you described - remove doors and drawer faces, sand, prime, and spray with lacquer off site then tent off the kitchen to do the same process with the cabinet boxes.

I'm surprised your painting places can't replace your doors/drawer fronts for you. (or just doors if you have slab front drawers) they could do for another 1500 or so. not a big deal. (Home depot is the middle man. they contract out and get someone to do exactly what I'm asking you to do w/your painter)

did you ask them? They have to prep and paint your doors anyway. ordering new shaker doors come unpainted. it's actually less work for them because they don't have to sand off the old finish.

Did you happen to read the other comment w/the diff color options? Door / shelf option? glass?

I put in a few color combos w/the blue/gray shades. posted quite a few examples.

I thought this was a good idea w/the glass in a few of the uppers over on this bank. (doesnt' have to be clear glass) your painters can remove the middle panel and replace w/any glass.

Or I showed a few if you removed a few of the uppers and did open wood shelves

Sorry, I saw the other posts. I’m mulling over the idea of glass fronts. If it isn’t a big cost, I think it would help break up some of the heavy blue. Im not tidy enough for open shelving and I have a devious cat….
I didn’t talk to the painter’s about changing any existing doors/drawers, but I’m still working out details with the one I think I will hire. They are actually a “home design” company and will surely give opinions on color and style options.

Home Depot does have limited colors for a refacing job. You should find out the cost of new, raw wood doors with your contractor since it definitely represents less work for them and probably a better paint job.

I don't think glass doors are the solution.

Do it all blue. It's a great blue.

The grays you're looking at aren't really easy to compare on a monitor and aside from the floor they aren't next to the things they'd have to look good with if you know what I mean, but if I had to pick one off the screen, it would be Passive.

(And you have great door style worth keeping if the rest of it works. They aren't the height of current soon-to-be-dated trend, but are instead perennially good-looking.)

Thank you, Fori! I agree about cabinets. They aren’t what I would pick out, but they will look less “traditional” once painted. I keep going back and forth, but I don’t think I would notice enough of a difference in style that it would make the extra cost worth it. I’m mostly just tired of every house I’ve lived in having brown counters. They are nice, but they aren’t me.

I'm redoing my kitchen right now. Have natural maple cabinets and travella counters with backsplash. Stainless appliances. Floor is currently dark oak finish but will be redoing them, thinking of a lighter color. I went with SW Silverpoint paint where the cabinets, windows & doors are (west/east windows). The solid wall I want to do with a dark blue to compliment the blue veining in counters (plus I love dark/navy blue). Windows are white trim.
