Reliable Velocity 240IR or 270IR irons are great. I’ve had mine for more than 10 years, believe it or not. It doesn’t leak, is hot enough for quilting and you can turn the auto shut off off if you want to. It’s a steam generator iron so it steams on demand versus steaming all of the time, which is ideal for me when sewing. You can get one through your local quilt shop- they’re available through their normal distributors for 150-200.

My experience is the same as Lois’. Every steam iron I’ve had after a short time started dribbling hot water and not steaming when I wanted it to, so I also use a spray bottle.

I've had Rowentas, a couple of steam generator steam irons (water is in separate tank) and they all disappointed me. The best irons I've had are Black & Decker Digital Advantage D2030 and then its successor D2530 bought in 2020. Both models are no longer made. My first D2030 lasted almost 15 years in my sewing room. Soleplate was easy to clean from starch and fusibles. It had auto-shutoff and it reheated amazingly fast. Anything B&D makes that costs more than $50 at amazon will probably be of equal quality .... one hopes. If either iron goes, that's what I will buy again. I'm just done spending money on expensive irons.

I recently bought a Maytag steam iron and love it. No leaks. Easy to fill. Gets very hot. I do not quilt or sew so cannot speak to those applications. yes, I've had the same Black and decker irons and they have been excellent, but are no longer available as you mentioned. I replaced it with the Black and Decker Allure professional steam iron D3030 in February. So far no leaking. It is not digital but irons as well as the others I've had. I'm not crazy about the dial being under the handle .This one rated better than the currant digital one available which is why I bought it.
