Vine ripened tomatoes aren't stackable like the greenish ones which are picked early. I use shallow cardboard boxes and transport the tomatoes in them as 1 layer only. I'll cut in half any box of suitable size into 2 shallow boxes (top & bottom), it's a good recycling use of Amazon shipping boxes.

Are yoou taking these to market or to Granny's? if you are taking some a long distance to a relative or friend then you might consider these:

Daleyc you're quite welcome. I don't have a pic of my tomatoes in a box but below is an example of how I do the same thing with our persimmons. I'll use duct tape to seal the flaps on the bottom of the cut boxes.

If it's not an enormous amount, bubble wrap works well, IMPE.

I use something you would have a hard time finding but I'll tell you anyway, maybe you'll get lucky.

I use bread racks I got from an out of business bakery and they work great. High enough for one layer of tomatoes and I can stack them high if I need to without damaging any tomatoes. I only took 15 or 20 but could of gotten hundreds at the time.

I've carried them cross country (by air) wrapped well in newspaper in a duffel bag.
