I like your chandelier, not keen on lambrequins. I would go with simple drapery panels from the ceiling. May be some plants on side of window or an opening.

    Some option

Since the room is formal, I'd paint the upper portion the wall.

Additionally, the valance of the drapes was hung at the wrong height. It should have been hung right below the crown molding.

Agree with the above. You need paint or wallpaper and different drapes - or at least hang them higher like Beverly says.

Wow. Beverly's picture with a new wall color makes a huge difference. Is there anywhere else you could use the spare chairs? If they were flanking a buffet, it would look more intentional. Hanging out on the walls like that, they look accidental, like you are still arranging the room, or pulling chairs out to vacuum.

Either hang your curtains higher or have them hemmed so that they clear the floor by about 1/4". Swaths of fabric puddled on the floor are not luxurious; they're messy.

Some colour on the walls would anchor the room and add character. So would pattern-- so consider a formal wallpaper above the chair rail, perhaps a paisley to pick up on the Indian painting. Something like this

WOW thank you all for your wonderful input! ☺️☺️ those chairs hanging on the side I removed those from the table because the table looked really cluttered with 8 chairs but I havent gotten a chance to take those in the basement. I cant change the drapery ☹️i wish I either got a different color or different color chairs. i will move the valance and drapery to be right below the crown molding. what would you all recommend on the paint color or wall paper color for the wal above the crown molding? should I get a buffet? should I put another piece of art on the wall? any other suggestions?

I love the wall color that matches your chairs in Celery’s last render. The art looks amazing against it.

Here is a little lighter and warmer neutral color. IMO lighter walls look better.

And yes if you have enough room for buffet or just console table with art above would be great.

As for valances, get rid of it. They look dated. Just move up panels.

Another vote for raising your drapery rod as high as possible until your drapes just kiss the floor. What about a slim console on the wall with the air vent (is it for return air?) and your Indian art on top of it leaned against the wall. Can’t tell exactly how tall your ceiling is and how large the art is, but I think that might work, even if it covered a bit of the air vent. That would center the art on that side of the room . . .

I think the blue color above the chair rail is best. Wallpaper maybe but it starts to get pricey and I'd rather see another interesting piece of art than wall paper on a blue wall. Make those changes and perhaps add a plant as shown. A buffet might begin to clutter the room. Hard to tell without knowing dimensions and seeing all four walls.

The blue is nice. A pleasant change from neutrals.

I might look for a piece of furniture, like a small china cabinet to go on the wall to the right of the door. Not a short buffet, but something with some height.

I also vote to hang the drapes only and not the valance from just below the molding. Of course a nice simple centerpiece is also needed.
