Hi I’d love any help or input with this kitchen layout and design. It’s a remodel so layout and design is tricky and you all are amazing with this stuff!

11 feet wide means that you have almost 7 feet between your sink and your range. That's inconvenient, and bordering on unsafe, especially since it appears that you have a traffic path running through that zone. Imagine carrying a heavy pot of hot pasta back to the sink to drain. Now add a child walking through the zone.

I would put the range on the wall where you have the fridge and pantry cabinets. Fridge, pantry, and microwave on the wall where your renderings show the range. Now people can grab and heat snacks without entering your main prep zone. Move the DW to the other side of the sink. Now someone can do dishes while another person preps, without crossing paths. With a large family, you really want to set up for multi-person kitchen use.

I thought about that, but I felt like the fridge took up to much visual space in our narrow kitchen making it look more narrow and long. It could maybe work with a counter depth fridge but we are a family of 7. Also moving the range to the back wall takes me farther away from the living and dinning room . I’d be cooking with my back to everyone while I’d need to be helping with kids homework while I’m and cooking dinner .

Pease post a fully-measured flat/2D layout of the Kitchen with all dimensions clearly marked and a sketch of the entire floor the Kitchen is on.

From the Featured Answer of the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread:

By "fully-measured", we mean a layout with the widths of each wall/window/door/doorway and the distances between each wall/window/door/doorway labeled. See a sample below. If something cannot be moved or changed, label it precisely on your layout (see post in sample) and tell us why it cannot be moved/changed -- we may have some ideas for you.

The sketch of the entire floor lets us see how the Kitchen relates to the rest of the home. It doesn't have to be to-scale, but it should accurately show how the rooms relate to each other and should include all interior & exterior doors. In addition, it will help us see how traffic flows in, around, and through the Kitchen. Label the front entry and family entry. The family entry is usually a garage or side entry, but it might not be. It's helpful to know which door you use to bring in groceries.

Regardless of how you draw it up (by hand, computer, etc.), please be sure all measurements are labeled. (Note: Computer generated layouts often lack key measurements and, sometimes, measure to/from things like the middle of a wall or the middle of a window. Neither are useful. Measure each item and the distances between each item.)

    Other questions...

    • Tell us about you and your family and how you plan to use your Kitchen. All-adults? Empty Nesters? Children (now or in the future)?
    • What appliances (& their sizes) do you plan to have?
    • Where are you flexible? Can walls/windows/doors/doorways change (move, change size, add, delete)?
    • Do you have a basement under the Kitchen or are you on a slab?

Do you want help with the layout of just someone to tell you your layout is great?

What's behind the current range wall? You could gain a few inches by recessing the fridge into the stud space.

    A few things to consider:

    1) How available for homework help are you when you are at the range? For me, once things are hitting hot pans, I'm pretty tied up for a bit. If I can't walk 15 feet away to help for a minute, I can't walk 2 feet away either. Fortunately, as Verbo mentioned, that's a pretty small chunk of my overall meal prep time.

    2) You could get a counter-depth fridge or fridges in larger sizes, two smaller sizes, a column fridge and column freezer.

    3) Do you have a garage, basement, or mudroom area where you could have pantry storage or an extra fridge? "Off site" food storage creates kitchen layout flexibility.

I’ll work on getting some 2d sketches with windows, doors, whole house view, to post. Thanks all 😊
