Green Giant Central Leader Cut, How will It Grow?

My landscaper planted a green giant that had the central leader cut. Will it grow another central leader? If so, will it grow from the ground or from the old central leader? Will it grow to look like a typical green giant? Pictures of the actual tree are below.

Did you pay full price for that or did you receive a discount? I would not have accepted the damaged tree or the skimpy one next to it. I wouldn't plant trees in August either.

it already has releadered .... is that a word.. lol.. it already has a new leader ..

all trees releader ... or they are dead ...

i am not happy that they appear top be planted under low utility lines.. somewhere in the near future ... the utility company is going to cut them back again.. and again... but since tree time is counted in decades.. it could be a while ...

i also would not be happy with a landscaper that made me pay full price for that.. unless it came at a significant discount ... it has nothing to do with the long term health of the tree ... its just not right ...

your tree will be fine.. until the utility comes along to prune it ...

Well that's patently not true!! Some trees do not even produce leaders or outgrow them after they achieve a certain height. Read up on decurrent growth habit.

And I have to say that those are two of the least well formed and vibrant GG's I have seen! I hope they were on sale, as I would not have paid anything close to full price for those!

It's happened to me a few times. Not by a landscaper. Deer have rubbed the central leader to death. What typically happens is one of the side branches takes over as central leader, so you end up with a little zag in the trunk in 10 or so years, but it doesn't seem to cause any issues and you can't see it unless you dig into the tree. Sometimes you get multiple leaders. You can prune out the ones you don't want, or you can leave them and have multiple leaders. I've done both.

BWT.. to the poster.. there is also a second or third potential leader there.. and over the next few years.. you might want to remove them.. or shorten them to allow the best one.. dominance ...
