Definitely into more grey theme. Opinions on what you think would look nice in the space.

Here is a room similar to yours. Your lighting color is off. That should be changed before anything. It's throwing the colors off. The light is too cool.

The gray is a bit boring.

The room needs a large rug with some color, but not necessarily a pattern. The floor is difficult to work with, so a solid rug may work best. The rug should be large enough that each person can pull his/her chair out to sit down without moving the chair off the rug. The rug needs to have a full-size rubber or latex waffle liner under it so the rug doesn’t move easily. Center the rug under the light fixture, then center the table on the rug. I think a rug at least 4’ wider and 4’ longer than the table top measurement will work.

What color[s] have you liked in your house so far?

2 empty walls, seen upon entering -- wallpaper?

wallpaper with trim around it... 1, 2, or 3 to fill with what you like.

Might not matter if heights of door and window curtain rod were the same. This claims it's $7 for a Sheer Window Panel 54" x 84".... maybe door could be painted same hue but richer/darker.

Two easy things…switch the bench and the two chairs, backs of chairs never look inviting and at first glance it looks like the other side is empty before realizing there’s a bench down there. Second, your rug looks soft and fluffy but doesn’t look like it loves having chairs scooted across it or food dropped on it. I’d find another room to use it. I love rugs under tables, just not that one. If you decide to buy a new rug, then that could be the launching point for anything else you want to add.

#1 COLOR--ya gotta choose drapes as in the other suggestions that draws one from the downer grays!! #2 A proper chady/light fixture hung just above the table. #3 A large colorful art piece to fill the wall. I am not a rug where you are eating person. With carpet you get chair sliding frustration and of course the fallen crumbs factor. Go ahead and take advantage of your bench by anchoring it against the wall. I can't tell if you have room for a server opposite the window behind the 'foot' of the table.

I woke up this morning so excited to read the comments. I am a newbie and really appreciate the help!

I never even thought about switching out the bench sides to open the space. (The space is wierd bc only enough room for the table).

I took a pic of these other two walls . On the window walls . Just treatments that is it.

On the big wall it is like 15 feet. How large a canvas would I need. I have a 3.5 foot one now and it just seems like wierd.

Do you guys think an entry table on the wall to thr right when you walk in wou

ld be good? Like a slim one?

My friend brought up doing the board and batton on that wall or the entire space what do yall think?

How long of curtains should I buy?

Wall color's should I paint all the same or accent wall? Also color ideas... is white good?

I really appreciate bev drawing stuff in my space . Thank. I actually do love the burnt orange color.

The rug you show no way. I hate bench seating at a DR table no one likes sitting hemmed in on a bench I don't even like picnic benches if I happen to be wearing a dress. Iwould start by choosing a nice big piece of art then use that to choose rug and drapery . It also would be nice to get some clue as to the room next to this one too. IMO the lighting is not too cool since yellow toned lighting will have a really ugly effect on grays. But you need a chandelier type light where the bulbs light the table not the ceiling. Accent wall color if you need it are the last thing to choose so don't worry about that now. Pull the table further from the wall the chairs can sit a bit our from the table on all sides and still fit the space the only time the chairs need to be pulled out is when you are dining and at that time usually no one is entering the space . I am okay with the orange but IMO the drawing is too matchy for me. It aslo needs to be connected to the LR for instance . Post pics of the LR and the kitchen these spaces all need to work together .

    Good points!!!!

My kitchen and living room are still blank slates so I have some flexibility.  I am doing one room at. Time. I just finished powder room which is right beside Dr.

I still feel lost on the picture for the wall... like how big?

Also, do I do anything with the wall you see when you walk in and the wall to the right?

What color should I paint white?

Should I split the wall with. Piece of trim. How high should I if I do.

Also if I do this would I do the wall to right when you walk in or just the actual dining room?

Your windows need fabric, your walls need art. If you select a few nice pieces of art, you can pick an accent color from those pieces…..pillows on a sofa, drapes or side panels on the windows, a wide runner rug from the front door toward the living room. Add a few potted plants, a storage buffet cabinet in the dining room to hold tablecloths, extra silverware, serving platters, things you use when you have guests.

    Match the rug and runner?

It's such a big wall you're going to have to do a gallery wall or have multiple pieces arranged symmetrically to decorate it. Some people like the quasi-randomness of a gallery wall and some people like a symmetrical look. I would try to cover 5-6' of wall. First and foremost you are looking for something you like so you're not wasting your money. I have had some pieces of art for 30 years that I still like. That's not always possible, but hopefully you will like it for a good long time. It's impossible for anyone else to tell you what to get since you need to like it. Be sure not to hang anything too high. Please, no mirrors. :-)

If you're decorating a whole house the best advice I can give you is to spend time looking at pictures on Houzz and build Ideabooks for each room so you refine your style. One of the most common mistakes non-professionals make when decorating is inconsistency. If you change styles room to room it is jarring. You also need to be thinking about a whole house color scheme. While I don't believe every room needs to be painted the same color, there needs to be some sort of coherent scheme. There are hundreds of articles on Houzz you can read to educate yourself if you're interested and have the time.

Ok I got a rug. Do you all feel like thus is a good size for the space I Def love the rug!

I Def agree I want thinks to be cohesive.  This is why I am doing 1 toom at a time. You guys are so knowledgeable.

This is my bathroom I just did. I took a pic of the dining room where you can kinda see bathroom if door is open. Would it be ok if I split the wall to do the lower half white and upper half the same grey?

This is mine but I like color.

There is nothing wrong with the rug you picked but I don’t think it’s right for your dining room. You should start with art that has some color and go from there.

I have decided to do something like this on the large wall! That way if I get board with pictures I can exchange.

Im still stuck on what to do on the wall across from the windows.

I am thinking of doing the shelve on the entry wall

Oh I love the Wayne's coating. Did you do them yourself it seems so difficult

Abigail the coating is just a chair rail adhered to the dry wall all around the room and 4 pieces of trim in a square. All available from big box stores. It is not all wood like the traditional Wayne’s coating. Paint whatever color you want.

Back to the elephant in the room -- but really I mean the 15' wall !

Idk that you have room for a console/table lamps there -?- nothing wrong to choose a basic even tentative color palette. Those 2 walls need large scale, imo, so we asked what color you like - even including the kitchen? whether a softer/deeper version of Bev's burnt orange, or another color.... talk to us!

Idk if the rug was a loved deal, but it's a great place in an open area to 'announce color' that you enjoy.

    What does the table measure?

What is the overall style of your home? I live in a very traditional two story that had chair rail in the dining room and family room when we moved in. It was a more traditional look than I really cared for. We finally removed it in the dining room. It was a DIY project for us and getting the drywall smoothed out for painting (so you didn’t notice where the chair rail had been) was a challenge. So be confident that you really want the chair rail before you install it! From the rug you picked, I am surprised that chair rail is a look you would want. BTW, I do love what you did in the bath.

I like @everdebz’s idea for a colorful rug. The whole house is reading gray. You need some lighter colors -including in the fixture (again from @everdebz). A large colorful canvas with a more lively rug will make a huge difference.

From there you can choose curtains. I wouldn’t do the wall dividing look in the dining room, but I like it in the bathroom (again, more gray). Add some pink towels in there.m

Greatbigcanvas.com and art.com are good places to start.

I like your inspiration photo with the shelf for the entry wall. Because that is a traffic way, you need something quite narrow and this could work. As for the rug, I know you said you love it, but I think you will be happier if you use the rug as a way to bring some color into the room. Also, size is marginal. Can you sit in the end chair and push it back to get up without the back legs going off the rug? If not, you need a bigger rug.

I don't think enough room for console table.

Thanks for the links for canvas!

I am still willing to change rug. I guess really I love burnt orange. Not pumpkin orange. Any recommendations on where to buy?

I also enjoy greens but not blues.

I enjoy the crisp cleanliness of white black and grey too..  like I enjoy the house just appearing crisp and clean.

I like that lamp with the shades but not the color of the shades lol. I also like the white fixture but need it black or grey inside.

Maybe something like this with a dusting of color. I'm still browsing. I am so appreciative of all this feedback!

Except when I think of decorating for Christmas. The burnt orange would clash!

If you really like the simplicity of white, black, and gray, then you might be heading in the right direction to just bring in what you called a “dusting” of color, like in that rug, and perhaps in a great vase on the shelf. As for Christmas, think decorating in green, gold, and white. Or perhaps if Christmas decor is a really big deal for you, then you might want a neutral rug and then bring in a strong color statement in the art on the long wall. That can be changed out for the holidays.

The professionals on houzz threads contribute reviewing comments often, about rugs, etc... there are some even I have seen a dozen times, and some have burnt orange... so I'm suggesting houzz as a source for rug. If you post "Houzz photo" it'd show it in the post.
