That dispenser is 99% probability a simple funnel that immediately runs whatever is poured into it into the space between the inner basket and outer tub. Liquid detergent is much more viscous than liquid chlorine bleach so will accumulate a lot of residue and possibly clog the dispenser funnel and/or hose (depending on what is the specific design of it ... citing the model for parts diagrams look-up will reveal the details).

Boys and girls both had to take 1/2 year shop and 1/2 year home economics when I was in school. It seems as of today kids no longer learn basic skills to take care of themselves after they leave mom and dad. Truly sad. I wouldn't wash a thing in that machine, totally gross and unsanitary.

@dadoes I didn’t get a pic if the model but it’s that basic Amana top loader that a lot of apartments seem to have. He was in the same complex before and they had Speed Queens and last year it was a SQ front loader. I guess they are switching to Amana. It looked new overall

Amana is a Whirlpool brand (came along when they bought Maytag in 2006). The catch-basin for the dispenser bezel probably is integral to the tub ring. It may drain through a small hose mounted a few inches lower into the outer tub. Or, it may be like this one which drains the catch-basin (at the left front) directly through the tub cover into the outer tub area.
