Building a summer/retirement place and have sacrificed some bedroom square footage to accommodate a better closet and en suite. Ceilings are sloped with double row of windows on 16-foot high wall that faces ocean.

I would like a king (78x80) with storage but width of room doesn’t realistically allow. I could probably do a California king (72x84, basic frame + headboard, no storage) but it would still be tight. (Note that closet door can still and may be changed to a sliding door.) There is no plan to have other furniture other than a small desk with shelving nook as shown on plan and maybe a storage bench at foot of bed. Same idea for other bedrooms. Closets will be designed to be very functional.

My wish list:

Very important: lighting and USB in headboards

Important but not a showstopper: storage in bed, even if only two drawers for extra linens

Also, I am hoping to have the same headboard design in all 3 bedrooms (design, but not necessarily size).

My options as I see them.

1. California king frame with one very small nightstand in corner near bathroom entrance. Have all headboards made by a handy family member (queen frame in BDR 2 and 3). ($$) This would mean sacrificing extra storage in all rooms, but that could be offset by storage benches.

2. Three new identical queen beds with storage ($$$) and get over the disappointment of no king in master. This is the most costly because I would be buying three whole beds. Not even sure I want to spend that kind of money with everything else to pay for.

3. Three queen frames and have three identical headboards made. ($). This is the least costly. no storage, but again I could add storage benches in all rooms.
