I have never heard of a pink blocker but get your floor guy to show you what it would do . I usually go as dark as possible with red oak to make sure I see no red/ pink.

Do you recall what colors samples 4 and 5 are?

4 is 1 part special walnut 2 parts neutral and 5 is 1 part neutral 1 part provincial

At least on our floors (it’s hard to tell in the picture) number 4 looked too yellow /orange and 5 looked too golden when the light hit it. We are going with number 2 which is straight special walnut so hopefully I don’t hate it. 😒 I can’t say I loved any

It’s crazy how in different pictures they do look a lot different. This is more true to color than the first.

Hi Hu- how did the special walnut floors turnout? im trying to pick the lightest possible neutral brown that still conceals the red. im wondering if special wslnut would fo the trick.

If a brown dye or stain is too red for your liking you add green to correct it. If the substrate is reddish then a greenish brown dye will give a more intermediate final color.

Remember that it is incredibly difficult (impossible for mere mortals) to judge color without follwing the entire finshing schedule-- your sample boards need to be sanded in the same way and to the same grits, and all topcoats need to be applied. Color correction by applying a toner (a colored finish coat) as part of the finishing schedule is often successful, and can be done at the end of the process if your initial choices didn't quite work, adding red if the brown is too green, or green if the brown is too red.

We did dark walnut on our red oak and it turned out pretty. We initially wished for lighter browns but it was not possible with red undertones. I can safely say we love the darker floors, they are rich in color and are not as challenging as we feared for upkeep. Hope it helps!
