IME they grow much better in their second season

One is in year 4! Maybe 5... the others are 2nd year. Maybe my site isn't good for them.

Late summer or early fall is the typical bloom time for any Miscanthus and I see nothing to indicate Huron Sunrise has an earlier than usual bloom time.

In my area, it is not unusual for Miscanthus to not start flowering until late September or early October or the flowerheads never developing fully.

Interesting... I distinctly recall that it was advertised as blooming earlier which is why it has appeal in my region where frost can hit as early as sept 15 but more typically later sept.

I will add that my favourite grass is switch grass. It's 6' by late august. Has nicer blades. I think it's name is thunder something...can't remember the full or proper name
