They look great! For some variety, consider wallpapering or painting custom cut luan or foam core to insert in the backs of them. You can change it out when you tire of it. Also shop for some new hardware; handles instead of knobs would be my choice. You might do a better job of styling them if you do 1/3 hardcover books (standing, leaning or lying to support other items,) 1/3 large decor pieces and 1/3 open space.

What's motivating the question? Do you really hate them the way they are? IMO they're pretty nice and it would be a lot of work to paint them. If you only have one wall of wood like this it doesn't seem like it would be too overwhelming, but I can see from your desk you like something lighter. Are they also just not your style?

I am on Zoom a lot for work and I think the brown is not the best background on camera. that is really the reason I am looking to change it up

oh you can add an eletronic Zoom background easier than painting them. or even hang a temporary backdrop. I used a beach party back drop and Zoomed from a beach chair on my Patio once during the pandemic.

Those are beautiful, I would not paint them.

I thought this dilemma was on here one other time like a year ago maybe 2 years but maybe it hasn't been I could be wrong I like the color of the built-ins it does match your floor and they are beautiful you want everything to blend sometimes blending can be blah?
