What kind of lighting?

Our kitchen renovation is under way and I am starting to think about lighting. i wanted to do pendant lights, but wonder if that would look good given that they aren’t directly over the island. Also, would they be bright enough? I just want something to add interest and draw attention to the height of our ceiling. We will be getting a new kitchen table by the way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

skylights will afford you a lot of natural light and you have 3. if you dont have already I would be certain and add under cab task lighting along the perimeter. In truth I'd prefer to keep the look at the ceiling rather clean and simple as it is now. Between under cab lighting and perhaps sconces on the wall by the table not certain how much more would be actually needed. Another option is the directional sconces you could install above the cabinets that are flexible with the angle you choose to adjust them. the ceiling speaks for itself...personally I'd leave it and bring the task lighting and other spots some focus w a customized plan. Right now with no stools and a very tight spot between table and overhang and stuff on the table its hard to see where the destination seating will be. If you work on the long wall w beautiful sconces that might motivate a more clearcut plan to get the seating properly set up. Or is the island top a digital image and its not in place yet?

Thank you for your feedback! yes that is the actual island countertop. It might be a little thight with the table but it will go along that wall somewhere. probably a table that is not as wide as the current one to create more space. so thats an idea, maybe i can just update the can lights and add in task lighting theoughout the space.

definitely pursue your goal with the seating and space around etc and level of destination appeal to people .....then you'll know how much "statement " in terms of style vs. sticking w practical lighting functions solely. certainly a special room in some ways but it has to "fit together" so it actually works. I like it but it has challenges. dont hesitate to narrow down and get involved w a pro whether lighting specialist or interior designer. You are quite far from refining/finalizing seating as there are no stools and you are to pursue a different table and chairs off to the side. Its a great space though!! here is someones adapatation to a narrow spot w

a built in banquette against the wall and eclectic style w table etc. I think you have more width than this but you may have to be creative.

What is the lighting plan? are you adding more recessed? can you get a box over where the table will go? if you just add a decorative light and take away a down light, you will have a very dark space.

RL, i guess i dont know what the plan is! I only have the 2 recessed lights, plus one over the sink. so you think pendant lights wont provide enough light for the space?
