Rural areas such as yours don't show many selections, except for solid hardwoods if you're in the northern states.

"Durable" You have to be realistic. Floors are the most abused building element in the home. With hardwood you'll naturally see dings, dents and scratches over time. One company may have a fancy name that implies durability. Sales tactics all over and the marketing is way over done.

Pets? I've almost pulled all my hair out on this 65 year old skull...hehe

Best? We need a budget to start any discussion.

Hi. We had engineered. Didn’t research much. Wish we had. They were sold as refinishable. Turned out… not so much. Only lightly refinishable. Where the dog scratched it and a door leaked water…. Totally not refinishable. I imagine there might be some out there that could be better. 🤷‍♀️ If we didn’t have a dog, kids and a leaky door, it might have been ok. It’s good that you are researching.

@Sheriff821 I work with homeowners like you every day. With so many engineered wood floor selections I understand how overwhelming it can be to find that perfect floor. I would start by figuring out what you must have, such as color, species, thickness, width, cost per sqft etc. From there you can narrow down. Here are a few tips for your consideration:

1. Wire brush white oak with matte finish

2. 5" to 8" wide

3. 3 to 4mm refinishable sawn-cut wear layers

4. 9/16" or thicker

You should be able to find many good selections. White Oak engineered wood floors have been the most popular ones in past a few years. I will start you with a light wire-brushed one in natural matte finish since it is a base color for many others. Hope this is helpful.
