? if it was me I wouldnt hang pendants there I would have something more in flavor with the home, "antique-ish" Id even consider removing the conduit, and adding in a piece of rail or track, then you could add some spots for more options on both pendant and directional. The flavor of this house does not ring pendant lights to me.

IMO lofts usually are more modern/ industrial spaces and you have now crammed this one full of tradirional furnishings so I agree either no pendants or ones thet go with your style and I would chose something that lights up that space a lot so whatever one you choose make sure it lights the island not the ceiling and is LED 4000K I for sure would stay away from amber glass

@decoenthusiate we do not like counter top seating, the stools were left over from our sold house’s basement. I’ve been looking for 4 chairs but everything I find I like and is quality is about $1,000 each. Since we’re here temporarily, the two basement stools recovered from an old warehouse serve the purpose for the two of us. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll try it.

I see the black shelf on the back wall. You could diy a thin black painted something shaped like the island to take 4" flush mount 700 lumen recessed leds designed for 1/2" drywall. Extend wiring up the cables using to hang the unit to an existing ceiling box. Use the old switch or an appropriate dimmer. An example. Read the installation instructions. Slim Panel Potlight 4" – Vega Lighting You won't need the box. $100 for 2000 lumens.
