A polished glass backsplash in a colour that compliments your countertop and decor, installed in a stack pattern, would give a nice contemporary look. You can also change the pulls to a modern polished nickel model, the shine on white cabinets is quite nice.

If you don’t want to redo the backsplash, I would at least continue the stainless all the way up under the hood.

From what I can tell, you have a soft blending of neutrals, so I wouldn't add white globes, and that particular look. There are stool chairs in a color you use in the house. Lighting might have strong lines....

On another look, I notice a somewhat rustic door -- how much rustic is your home? Your handles and appliances are cool tone?

relief molding on top of cabinets is the odd part that wont fit w your plans. change that to simple stack selection without the traditional vibe. then some of the ideas will help w your goal. you can make an inspiration board of the spots you'll change and coordinate everything.....Its open looking but not all that large so care w efforts and choices. the changes will be nice. Note clean lines atop cabs....

You have a lovely kitchen. I would replace the light fixtures. Everything is gray, white and stainless steel. I think adding some other color would look nice. It is not contemporary, but that beaded chandelier is gorgeous! I think adding some warmth and earthy wood tones would look lovely.

IMO island lighting should light the island not the ceiling and the rest seems pretty contemporary . Change all the light bulbs to LED 4000K that will make the space feel much different Please no god awful beaded ligt fixture anywhere in a contemporary space same goes for wicker .

I agree with @amykath, do not change the cabs or tile with something trendy that will date. Reserve that for accessories, wall color, and decor that is easy to replace when your taste changes. And yes cabinet hardware easy to replace...try your black or your fun color. You are lucky to have a nice neutral kitchen. It's beautiful...and enjoy your new place!
