Should kitchen cabinet colors contrast with the floor color?

I am remodeling and I have dark wood floors throughout the apartment. I like dark wood modern kitchen cabinets. Is it odd to have dark floors and cabinets? It is an open kitchen dining room living room floor plan. Would it be better to use granite tile in the kitchen to provide some contrast?

In most cases there would be be a contrast between the flooring and cabinetry.

I agree, a contrast of some sort would be nice between the floors and cabinets. You could explore mid-tone cabinets and a darker counter to tie into the flooring. I like having the same flooring throughout a space, especially in a small space, so I wouldn't change the flooring. Good luck!

If the floor and cabinet wood tones are really great together or just about match, dark with dark can look OK. But, that is often difficult, so I like contrast (like possibly maple cabinets?).
