I love weaving the bacon ... everyone always asks 'how did you do that?'

so you know i tell them, 'well you fry up the bacon ... and then you assemble.'

I had lots of ghost peppers and plenty of tasty tomatoes, but never more than 3-4 quarts at a time, so we canned about 5 times in total

Wow, you should have these printed on stretched canvas. They're beautiful. Better than I've seen in even the trendiest of restaurants.

Ditto on the growing season here. Scorching hot, drought, and instead of tomatoes (I got ONE), I got Sphynx moths. Oh well. I do like those moths, and I didn't need any BLTs.

Well, I'm sure glad it wasn't just me. Not a great tomato year, although I canned a couple of batches of sauce and of salsa. We managed to have BLTs twice.

Not as pretty as these sandwiches, of course, but my tomatoes looked very similar with cracks and spots.

I wouldn't mind having one more BLT this year, but it snowed here two days ago, so probably not going to happen, LOL.

Yep, this was the worst tomato season I've ever had. Seems like that has been the case over much of the US. I only got one tomato before September. In the last three weeks, though, we eat tomatoes with almost every meal. We have not had enough to can as we usually do.

Boy, I had a pretty good tomato year. Black Cherry tomatoes were my most productive, but

I also had a bunch of larger tomatoes. I live with my mother, now, and she complained about the constant presence of final-ripening tomatoes on the kitchen counter. We enjoyed BLTs several times, but the price of bacon put an eventual hold on that. I wish I could raise my own pig. Though, pork in other forms is still the most cost effective meat to buy. I don't know if she'll let me grow tomatoes next year, since we have so many preserved already.

bragu_DSM 5, The weaving of bacon makes it flat so I can drain out most of the fat. That allows me to enjoy more bacon.

docmom_gw, I agree. Bacon has gotten very pricy. Good thing tomatoes and lettuce are free for me.

Yes, here’s to a better season next year. I am having a final flush of nice ones, even some that are pretty large, but they will likely be the last of them this week. I will miss fresh tomatoes more than anything. I’ve been fighting the raccoons this year. They won.

Today my husband pulled all the community garden plants and came home with a bag of ripe ones and some green ones. Our plants here in the yard are still producing but there is a freeze west of us and maybe they're done now too.

Our 3 plants are still looking good! The Early Girl is still putting out. The San Marzano and Purple Cherokee'S maters were fried in our weird 115* heat wave, but have started producing again! Still mostly green right now, though. Early girl and purple each got to at least 6' and San Mazano was a very thick 4'!

I didn't realize I was looking at bacon until Bragu posted. I thought it was some kind of fiber art. LOL
