The load shouldn't be "really hot when done" being that all cycles end with a cool down period.

I advise to check for obstructions in the exhaust ducting. The entire length of it from the wall connection to the exterior exit at the end. Long dry times and excess heat remaining at the end are indications of an airflow problem.

Has the bunching-up situation always been a problem or is it a recent occurrence? Is the problem happening on all loads or is it related to specific kinds of clothing or loads?

The belt wraps around the drum, there's an idler / tensioner assembly that maintains proper grip on the drum and motor pulley.

You didn't cite the specific model number of the dryer. Bravos XL is a marketing label. Some models may have a belt-driven blower (separate belt from the drum), others may have the blower wheel mounted directly to the motor.

Does the 'XL' indicate a larger than average dryer capacity? if yes, perhaps the load of clothes is too small. for it? Any dryer we have ever owned does what you describe when there are only a few items in our normal-capacity dryer.
