Pull your bed out six inches and add wide curtain rods so that the dramatic drapes you hang will be the correct width and height to open and close properly behind the headboard.

The rods should be about six inches above the window, and about a foot wider on each side so the fabric does not block any window when open (except the sheers). The drapes and sheers hemmed to just touch the floor.

P.S. Your little sheers are charming and sweet. They must reflect your personality lol. I would leave them but still add the drapes.

This duvet cover (pottery barn) would tie in your green-ish (looks more green than teal on my monitor) and white walls, has some deeper rust tones to that pull out the color in your flooring and lighter beigy/brown tones to relate to your hanging lamps as well.

Here's another trick...fool the eye into thinking the windows are taller. Hang Roman shades in heavier fabric way higher than the window frames. Add extra length so they still close all the way down.

This is a very rough concept rendering. They might be too tight with the sloped ceiling.

Then add curtain panels if you want in front of the Roman shades.

In this case with drapes that close, you could switch the Roman shades out for a valance that hides the top of the window frame. Green is the valance. Colors TBD.

Agree with @tracefloyd about taking curtains as high and wide as possible. Regarding a rug: not sure what your budget is for rugs, but I would go as large as possible (but maybe order the smallest size in the one you like as a sample - that way it’s easier to return). Once you purchase a rug that you love, it will be much easier to build the room around it. It will exponentially warm up the room and and amp up its cozy factor. In the meantime, posting a floor plan with measurements of the space and photos of any existing furniture pieces you’d like to use in it would help us start gathering ideas for furniture. (Note - some prefer bedrooms with less color but according to your initial choice of wall color and inspiration rug, you seem drawn to more color. I love color myself, so I say, go with what makes your heart sing. )

I’d like to see the wall that is across from the bed. Does it have access to a bath and closet? I like the idea of the bed under the short ceiling angled wall centered under the lighting putting a dresser between the windows and a chair in the corner.

For a DIY valance, cut a piece of lauan to size, cover with batting, wrap with fabric glued to the back. Nail 2" wood strips to the wall, Velcro the valance to the wood. Basically just cover the wall from the top of the window to the curtain rod.

Regarding nightstands, could you post a better photo of the bed? And is there any other furniture in the room you will be keeping?

OK, here are a few directions you could go with nightstands. If you need the storage, I would look for large three-drawer chests. Otherwise, if storage is not an issue, a round table is an option to offset all your linear furniture. Height of nightstand should be roughly the height of your mattress or maybe a tad higher. Gina love the idea of the round night stand. What software do you use to include pictures? Also what color sheets and bedspreads would you do?

Love the rug! Is that the one? Bedding will depend on final rug selection but I think it should be low-key, perhaps plain white or ivory depending on rug color (you could have some bright accent pillows). Your teal accent wall and rug are the stars in this production and curtains and bedding play supporting roles. I like the round end table too because it will allow some of your wall color to show through underneath the windows. My sorry mock-ups were done with MS Paint . . . Good night :)

I always like just white or off white bedding. Since it is so expensive you don’t have to buy new if you change the colors in your room

Hi Gina, any thoughts on a rug for my office?

You could go in many directions (Oriental, neutral Moroccan, sisal, cowhide, teal/white), but I am all for keeping a style consistent in every room of the house. So, if a colorful Oriental makes your heart sing for your bedroom, go with something similar in the office, maybe a combination of teal and a slightly different accent color from the bedroom. As far as size, if your budget allows, get one large enough that only 12-18” of floor shows around its edges.

To finish off the plan for your bedding, if you go with a colorful Oriental rug and neutral bedding, look for a colorful accent pillow for the bed and then you could add in some larger solid color pillows behind. Here are a couple examples:

Love the nightstand and art! Go as large as you can with the art piece. Regarding bedding, it’s very individual and depends a lot on how many layers you like and how long you want to spend making it in the mornings. My taste in bedding has changed a lot over the years. After living in Eastern Europe for some years, we love to sleep under a duvet covered in a washable duvet cover. I have a super lightweight one for summer and a heavier one for winter. I see you have a duvet already in your first photo. What if you buy a duvet cover set with shams for it in a neutral white similar to your wall color. That “fluffy” element (duvet) could be the base layer for your bed and a wine colored quilt or throw (color looks really nice with rug, but I wonder if a huge block of it might be overwhelming) could be folded at the base of the bed for an accent. Google “styling a bed” for lots of good articles with photos. Here’s one look from Studio McGee:

You have good taste and you learned to do your own mock-ups, which is huge. Keep gathering ideas from Houzz into ideabooks, one for each room. Do searches like, “Teal Office.” Or once you know your design style, “Teal Boho Office.” You can also import screenshots from other websites such as Pinterest on your camera roll into your Houzz ideabooks. I do that to keep all my ideas in one place. The Houzz store has a good visualizer tool to see things in a room, even if you end up finding it cheaper elsewhere. Keep learning about interior design in your spare time. There are several helpful designers on YouTube: Kinwoven - Robeson Design, designchickee, Julie Khuu, Posh Pennies, and Kristen McGowan are some you might like for starters. Take design style quizzes and try to figure out your style. It will probably end up being a mix of several styles but it will help you know yourself. Keep your style and color scheme consistent across your entire home. Learn to do room layouts to scale on graph paper using graph paper cutouts of furniture.
