Is this acceptable for a quartz countertop waterfall edge?

Hi All!

This counter and waterfall edge was just installed. The fabricator recommended using two pieces of quartz back to back to avoid the unfinished inside on the waterfall. I asked that the whole surface be the same thickness - but is this ok ok? Also, the seam is not flush. It looks very obvious and unrefined to me. Again, it seems like a workmanship issue to me - but am I being too picky? The fabricator says there is nothing they can do. is there a fix besides learn to love it? T.I.A!

Yeah, that would bother me. A lot!

I don’t know if it is possibe to remove that extra quartz piece they added. That looks terrible. Maybe do something like this?

I think I could live with it. Although, as mentioned the corner where the pieces connect should have been a mitered edge and the inside that would show polished.

This is where your kitchen designer should have ordered a wood panel to finish that off. A waterfall next to a wall like that isn't the focal point hat it's intended to be.

The fabricator was foolish. He laminated unfinished against unfinished, hence the nasty adhesive line. He should have polished the inside of the 3cm; it's not at eye level and would have been fine. And no miter on a waterfall?

Well this is educational, I thought waterfall was the term where the drop occurs at the very end of the top and not from underneath the top.

It's pretty bad. If the seam were done better it would be better. Do you have in writing that it would be the same thickness? Or any details on the edge being mitered or not? It's gonna be awfully hard for you to learn to love that I'm afraid.

And ignore the trolls.

The point of a waterfall is a continuity of the slab's character from the top "flowing" down the side. That requires a mitered joint where the horizontal and vertical pieces meet. The material selected doesn't have the movement characteristic of a waterfall; it's not a good choice. The lamination of the two vertical pieces is horrible as Joseph Corlette noted.

This waterfall should not be there. As mentioned, wrong location and the wrong material for a waterfall design. But also, the wood underneath is beautiful. What a much better choice it would have been to not have the waterfall counter, and instead have that beautiful wood as the end panel to the island.
