I don't know about a floor lamp, but I'd consider swagging a ceiling fixture in there.

Where would you put the base of the floor lamp?

I don’t like the look of a swagging ceiling light and don’t like the wires showing running down walls (one of my pet peeves). The lamp would be tucked back on the right hand side of the desk.

Beverly's ideas are right on. I get that you don't want a plug in wire, but I don't see how it will look any more obtrusive than a floor lamp crammed into that corner.

It's not hard to pull wire from the existing switch or outlet box to a site of your choosing, so that you can have the fixture you want in the place that you want without wires showing. If you're uncomfortable doing that, hire an electrician-- it's a small job.

They have cord covers for walls in different styles and colors.

IMO a wall mounted light that can be adjusted to do tasks is the right choice cords or no cords function trumps looks in a office IMO.

if you want a floor lamp a brass reading lamp would be good. one you see that is often beside a chair. somthing like this both the height and the shade can be tilted/raised.
