If don't think it will go together, is it because of the style of Carrara doesn't fit the room/ countertops, or that the colouring is off? The colour difference is partially due to room lighting - in person the whites of the backsplash and cabinets will not be that far off and there is some brown in the veins to complement the countertop. The color is off, and the stones compete visually (veins versus splatters).

I would say the large format glossy faux marble tiles look more suited for a bathroom.

When selecting a backsplash material, consider all the finishes in the kitchen that will affect your selection. Can you see how warm white your cabinets are? You cannot select a cool white like the tile to coordinate with that.

It's going to be a lot easier to select a backsplash if you contrast the countertop color and the cabinet color

Absolutely no. Nothing with veining. If you're doing a refresh, and want to avoid changing granite tops? You keep it simple. Try a newer looking 5 x5, or a 6 x 6 that gives you shades of white in a ceramic. I don't see a "stacked" subway in the obviously traditional style of cabinetry. A 2 x8...could be nice of course.

Either way, the only way to select a tile is to go shopping in a dedicated tile store, and drag home samples when you are done painting the cabinets.

The point here is before you tile? Do you love the granite : ) ?

There are interim solutions if you're delaying for resources. The only spot you need the protection is behind the cook .

A stainless sheet, custom trim panels matching the cabinet faces either side, and painted. A tide me over: )

Take your White Heron paint sample when looking for tiles. All of the plain examples Bev posted would work - but the color should match White Heron exactly.

Thanks all, in particular Bev with the pics. The granite counter pic show the old paint colour of the cabinet which are going to be painted white heron, and we did bring a white heron sample when looking at the veining backsplash (which has whites that match white heron despite how the pics looks and veins have brown to match counter). So colour wise, we might be okay but I guess the style of Carrara doesn’t quite work.

Your kitchen is lovely and suggest bringing home lots of tiles to test, but wait until after your cabinets are painted. I don’t feel the marble or white subway are ideal with the strong, dark granite.

Given Heron White has, what looks to be a grey undertone, along with your brown counter, I’d be aiming on how to best tie them together by color and design.

Yes you are correct, I do think it is more the style I don’t care for. Normally, the larger format size tile is not used as a kitchen backsplash.

I also have seen tons of photos of showers walls and bathroom floors done with that size porcelain tile in that same shiny faux marble, so that is why I said it looked more like it fit better in a bathroom setting.

It certainly would not hurt anything to bring home samples of a REAL marble in a subway size.

I think your granite splotches read pretty ”quiet”. I am not seeing a little marble veining or color variation looking hideously busy with your Antique Brown granite. From a distance especially it looks like a solid dark brown.

Here is a Calacatta Gold 2x8” tile from Tilebar to show you. They have it in honed or polished. I tried to color over your cabinets the white heron color.

I realize this one below is not with the new White Heron paint color but might give you an idea on the scale of the tile size. I just used the ”see it in my room” feature on the tilebar website.

I saw a few others on Tilebar’s website you could try as well. But, It might be more difficult then it seems finding a tile to match the white heron. It looks to be in the green/yellow family so it will make certain ‘white’ tiles look pink next to it.

I don’t know if your granite has any of the little iridescent blue mica flecks in it, but if it did this one might be pretty and more unique then a plain off white subway.

Of course it is definitely not for you if you are someone who is a little scared of adding color in something more permanent then a throw rug or hand towel.

I am obsessed with handmade blue pottery, so I think this would be so pretty!

They have the white pearl version too.
