My first thought is a 4 x 6 minimum, centered on the door & a rug with pattern and color. I’d move the console away from door so that rug can be centered without any of console legs on it. Do you have plans to add art over the console? It would be nice to see a pretty arrangement from the opening where the two steps up are. Console & art could be centered on that opening.

Hi Kate. Looks like a beautiful home. I would not use a long runner, as it will either be off center of the front door or the flex room, which will feel awkward.

I would move the console down toward the flex room with art over it. Hopefully you can remove the vacuum and shoes?

I think a runner would look nice. You could either ignore symmetry and put it in front of the console, or get a wider one and have it run party under the legs of the console. Etsy has lots of beautiful vintage rugs for a great price. Your table looks large enough for a nice-sized lamp and some artwork. This space has lots of potential!
