Don’t spend a lot of money when kids are little, and the bathroom will be abused. I think you could keep as is, and paint a beige with more of an orange or pink undertone than the current yellow undertone. Spruce up the window with a natural woven roman shade and call it a day. If you want to get rid of the bossy granite, find a remnant shop and something more neutral. Take a floor tile with you if possible. Don’t get anything that will etch for a kid’s bathroom.

Truly, I would wait, because it sounds like you are not a huge fan of the floors, boys are horrible sometimes about missing the target and ruining the grout around the toilet 🤢. Once they have outgrown that stage, you may want to do new floors and countertop, and then you won’t feel hemmed in trying to match something.

What about formica/laminate for now. If it takes a beating - no problem, since you will change it out when the boys are older.

Oh, I would not do wallpaper in a bathroom for kids. Get a nice washable paint

I don’t know about y’all, but we had 2 normal children, and no countertops were ever destroyed by them! What is this about children being so destructive that the parents can’t install some new counters?? Ok, they may get some marker on the walls, scrape along walls etc, but to destroy a quartz counter?? Is the world raising monsters rather than kids these days? (And no, I am not 100 years old) I just don’t get it…….I bet if the OP were selling the house, the majority of shoppers would say the counters needed to go….She doesn’t care for them either, so she should change them, it’s really not a big deal.

Ok, so if the counter goes. (Which is my preference), what is best to replace it? I would definitely be getting a remanent of some sort.

If you're getting a remnant, we can't tell you what's best to replace it because it all depends on what is available at the time.

If you get rid of the current granite, you will want something that works with the red orange of the cabinet (unless you paint it, but that’s a project) and the pink beige of the floors. Take a cabinet door and a piece of the tile (if you have extras) to the marble/granite yard and see what looks best. If it were my bathroom I would wait to remodel everything. It seems a waste of money to do it piecemeal. You will see the floor when viewing the granite so make sure it works with the tile.

@coray i don’t think they will ruin any countertop. i think the tile will look grimey and the cabinet may get beat up as well, so I wouldn’t spend alot of money getting a fancy countertop to match the other things in the room that it sounds like she doesn’t much care for and will probably need an update in 5 years as well. piecemeal renovating ends up costing much more than doing everything at once, and usually means you don’t end up with what you really want, because you are always trying to match something recently bought to go with what you are actually replacing now. And I know this from experience and having 2 normal children.

I would never NOT update a room because I have young children, that’s all. I’ve painted so much in my life, it’s nothing to me, esp a small bathroom….1 day’s work. And replacing a quartz top and sink plus faucet (which they could reuse) is neither super costly nor a big deal….we’ve done it. Who’s to say, if the OP finds a nice, neutral piece of quartz, that she couldn’t keep it once she’s ready to redo the floors? She could then simply repaint the vanity and walls, and all will be nice and new. Would I launch a full-blown reno with fancy wallpaper and expensive shower glass for a couple of youngsters? No…..but the OP wasn’t talking about going that far. Well, to each his/her own, I’m sure she’ll come up with a temporary solution.

Do you have Corian near you? An off white Corian is able to be refinished.

Yes, I had to replace the shower fixture due to an issue and just wanted a bit of a refresh, not a re do. I wanted to replace fixtures, sink ,paint and replace granite.

I purchased the sink and fixtures and was now picking out the counters. I prefer clean and simple and this granite is a lot of pink and too much for me.

I was going to get a remnant but don’t need to. If someone can guide me on color/ type I can try to find one similar and if not purchase from a slab.

Ideally I don’t want to try to return my sink and fixtures, but can go that route if everyone truly feels that new counters are a big mistake 😊

Oh and there are places with corian near me. I’m in northern NJ

Sara, see my post above re: Silestone Charcoal Soapstone. You can ask around to different fabricators to see if they have a remnant so you don't have to buy a full slab, or you can just buy a regular slab, not a jumbo one. Get the sueded finish on it so you don't have to worry about fingerprints. If you do that, I'd paint the walls a neutral white, like Benjamin Moore Simply White.

I just looked it up and I like it a lot! I think it would work with the floors that are this odd white/gray with a tinge of brown. I’m going to bring my cabinets and tile to look at it. And I always use Benjamin Moore so appreciate the color suggestion. Thank you!!!!!

@coray I just replaced a prefab quartz top with an integrated sink for my mother in law. It was super easy. And cheap. As long as you have a standard vanity size and not site built cabinetry like I have.

@sara Do you have a standard size vanity? You can get white quartz tops with the sink included from Lowes or HD and purchase the matching side splash. Can get any simpler and cleaner than white. It is just a lot of them have some gray veining. which won’t look great with your floors. If you find a quartz remnant, something like calacatta gold could look nice in there. I happen to love uba tuba and black granites as well. And I think they will be an improvement over what is there for sure, they are just not as “on trend”. Doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful. A beige granite like Santa Cecilia or a white granite that is more off white could coordinate nice as well. Just look for a polished granite and keep it sealed. Some quartzites have issues with water absorption and marble will probably require more care than you want.

Just kind of think about your overall plan for what you want the bathroom to look like and plan for the future too. If the things you like don’t look great with the floor, step back and think “do I want to spend money on something I don’t like just to match this floor?”

Oh my! Go with what you want. There will be some who say keep it and others like me who say - toss it.

Not telling you what to do - but, from what I can see that mirror/medicine cabinet can be replaced as well.

You have a TON of stone yards in Northern NJ. And marble comes right off the boat at the NJ docks so you are in Stone City. Just do a Google search for stone yards and call to ask if they have any remnants in either white or dark grey. I think Virginia Mist would work nicely. It is close to a soapstone look.

Remember to remove a vanity door and bring one floor tile.

If you can paint the vanity and mirror yourself, your stone options just quadrupled. But I think you will find a lot of options in your area.

This would be a nice way to update on a budget…white under mount sink added..remove that wall unit with the mirror and add a round black framed mirror.

I think your cabinets and floor tile are very nice and I agree that the countertop isn't working well with them. Personally I would look for something light to medium gray, but that's just my personal preference. I would avoid anything brown/yellow/warm because of the cool tile. You could go with granite or with something like quartz, depending on your personal preference.

I do think the green Ubatuba you show could work. I'd bring home a sample and make sure you like it with the cabinets and floor tile.

Your countertop could work in some spaces, but it does not work with your floors. One or the other has to go and my preference would be to keep the floors and ditch the countertop.

I lightened your last photo to grab some colors.

I can see that you have yellow lighting (2700-3000 k lightbulbs), so everything looks a bit yellow.

But the lighting in the first couple of pictures is impacting all the colors, so it doesn't really matter.

I like the wood with the flooring. I could live with the wood and the countertop. I could not live with the wood, countertop and flooring. The flooring and countertop clash.

Here is the wood, flooring and the new countertop you are looking at.

It is better, but the green/golds still clash with the flooring - AND the flooring is probably even more gray/neutral/taupe then pictured here due to the yellow lighting that is altering it, so it will clash even more in real life.

You need something that really works with the flooring. I just picked a sandstone color from Corian. If I am correct and the flooring is less yellow/ more taupe gray this would be a great match to the flooring.

Once you find the countertop you can pick a great wall color. Blue greens are one of my favorite colors with taupe.

As far as material goes - I would choose a solid surface like Corian or a quartz or a granite. I would avoid marble with kids - it will be stained and scratched before you blink.

@Jennifer Hogan - I wasn’t suggesting marble, just letting her know how many stone yards there are in her area of NJ. I can’t even think of a marble that would work for her….and having had marble in my own prior master bathroom I wouldn’t suggest it. So many other good options.

So I went with my gut and changed to quartz- it’s not perfect but it’s much matter ( at least I’m my opinion). Now I’m not sure what color shower curtain or paint. I’m thinking I’ll pick the curtain first and I have an amazing local Benjamin Moore store that helps with paint colors. I thought it would be best to pick a curtain first. I just bought this blue one and think I like it, but would like some sound advice 😊 thank you!!!!

Great job! I really like your countertop choice. I would keep the mirror cabinet (someone suggested removing it) as it provides great storage and matches the vanity style and colour so well.

The ones from @Mrs. Beasley are so much more interesting than any standard shower curtain. And the first one pulls together all the items that are already there.

I think that Sabrina Alfin Interiors had a great suggestion which I agree with and have illustrated. You can also either replace your cabinet knobs of spray paint them black.

The quartz you selected looks a million times better than the speckly orangey pink granite!!!

If you keep the shower curtain (and why not--it's very nice!), you could consider a navy blue for the walls. Ben Moore has a lot of great navy blues--Hale Navy, Newburyport Blue, Van Deusen Blue, Spellbound, In the Midnight Hour, Hudson Bay.

You might consider spray painting the cabinet knobs a chrome(brushed nickel, etc), to match your other metal.

Put a fun picture above the toilet for your boys.

Just saw your post today, but thought I’d share that I’m currently remodeling our boys’ bathroom. Glad you went with Quartz, as it is low maintenance unlike granite. We originally had granite countertops and are replacing with quartz, also. I’m glad I read the comments because someone suggested Benjamin Moore Simply White for paint color. I haven’t selected my paint yet, so will look into that. Hope your boys will enjoy their new bathroom!
