Please help with this TV wall...

Struggling to know what to do with this TV wall. Don't want TV over the fireplace, so this is really the only place for the TV. Keep the console? Change to an entertainment cabinet? What would you do on either side? Help!

Paint the wall as a feature wall in a deep accent color to help camo the TV. Then add art and/or shelves on both sides as focal points to draw the eye.

Great site for framed and unframed canvases and prints.

I agree that a feature wall, but in dark chocolate brown or dark orange, with a much wider console in lighter wood finish is the way to go.

I am assuming that is the fireplace hearth to the left-I can see it on the floor. What is the room with the other rug? Is that the dining room? Can you possibly switch rooms or use the space where I see a drop leaf table, left of the fireplace for the TV? It really would be great if we had more pictures as well as a floor plan.

Are you standing in the kitchen? to make the kitchen and seating conversational,

I would put sofa on that wall and move the tv to the fireplace.

@Lyn Nelson: OP doesn't want TV over fireplace.

Unfortunately it is a rather small space and my sofa is a bit too large, but I'm stuck with it! I would love to turn the sofa against the long wall, but trying to figure out where the tv would go then, rather than over the fireplace. Love the accent wall ideas!!

@Rhonda Morris: You did a great job. You have the sofa facing both fireplace, outdoors, and TV, so keep it that way. The sofa is a bit oversized, but it helps that it's light. A high contrast accent wall, now that I see the softness of the space, might not be ideal. Instead think about getting a much, much wider console and creating a gallery wall of beautiful art works on that wall:

I like the idea of a dark accent wall like tracefloyd and housegal200 suggest, but if you want to keep things light, I like this simple look of a long, low console under a very large Frame TV.

No expertise here but would love to know where you got that couch!

I, also, like the sofa! Very pretty. Who is the manufacturer and where did you get it? Thx!

I am so grateful for all of your expertise and advice! Thank you! I will try adjusting the placement of everything and possibly a darker shade of neutral accent wall. Next... to find the right wall art! But balancing the wall will help so much. Thankful for your expert advice!

So glad you like the sofa, it is a Bernhardt and I found it at a shop in Greenville, SC.

This is an example of how not to decorate in a vacuum. I feel that a fireplace should be the focal point in a room, and now that I see the entire space with the additional photos posted, I think drawing attention away from the fireplace with a strong accent color on the adjoining wall is not such a good idea.

I like the suggestion to keep things light...I like the inspo photo provided by housegal with the matched set of 4 framed blue prints surrounding the TV. And a longer console if possible.

I also like the suggestion to move the sofa so it centers on the fireplace, it is not too big for the room, but seems crammed too close to the TV wall.

Another vote for getting The Frame TV (Samsung) and doing other art around it. We recently got our 75" The Frame TV and I love not having a big black rectangle when not watching TV. The built-in is still being finished!

I'm not sure this would work dimension wise, what if you turned the sectional 90 degrees and put a frame tv on the wall to the left of the dining room opening. Then the chair angled to the left of the fireplace. That would open up the room. I generally don't like a tv in an area that gets foot traffic, but if you don't use your dining room when the tv is on, then it could work. Otherwise I like the other suggestions. You have a lovely home!

Just select a larger size TV. The current TV looks dwarfed by the furnishings in this room.

I moved your sectional to the left a bit

When you have such large-scale furnishings your lamps and accessories need to be the same scale. I increased your floor lamp by 30%

I'd use a wall-mounted, floating media cabinet on the wall.

Thanks for the great input! I love the blue prints surrounding the tv, and even the possibility of using a lighter color console to lighten the weight of the space. I also love your frame and bookcases, Chispa. Re: centering the sofa on the fireplace, I would love to do that RL Relocation, but unfortunately the room isn't big enough. In reference to your sketch, there isn't actually much room on the outside of the windows, so pulling the sofa back would cut off the pathway. I know it's hard to tell from the pics. I think the ideal solution is going to be a new sofa....

if nothing else center it to the rug.

For reference, the room dimensions are 16'10" (fireplace wall) by 19'5" (tv wall) both including walkways. The sofa is 9'8"L by 3'5"W.

I have a question. How would you arrange this room if you didn't have a tv in it? The sectional will always be off center because of the walkway. The way you have it now looks good in photos, but does it feel closed off to you in real life? Right now you have to walk to the end of the room to get into the room. Unless you mostly enter it from the dining room. How often do you watch tv? If the tv were on the wall, would people always be walking in front of it during normal viewing hours? As I said, I generally do not like tv's placed in a walkway, but it might not be an issue in this case. When off, it would look like art. Then you can decorate over the sofa wall and keep the fireplace as the focal point. Either way, I think side tables with lamps would cozy the place up.

Thanks, Gigi W... I do think the room feels a little closed and I actually moved everything yesterday to put the sofa on the long (TV) wall. It felt really nice and inviting, and I loved how open it was. Without boring you with details, I am almost legally blind and have to sit very close to the TV in order to watch. Since I'm home-bound at night, I watch regularly and need a comfortable place to do that. So the open layout I tried felt great, but I didn't have a good place to watch TV. So, today I moved everything back... two great workouts!:) I really do think I'll have to get a new sofa to be happy with it. I appreciate your input and think you had great advice!

Ok, that's important info! I also meant to recommend getting a larger tv as others did. If you get a new sofa and some chairs you will have other options for opening the room up. I do love that sectional though!

Yes! I agree, Gigi! Can't wait to be able to do that, though I love this sofa also... But, I have come to terms with a need for change, hard as it is. One day!
