Backsplash Help!!! urgent!!

Hello! I am sticker with choosing a backsplash for my kitchen. No would like to ask for professional advise. After loookibg at different options, I decided to use the same material as counter top, since the color was discontinued I was able to locate a single slab to do partial backsplash. The material is dark so I was not planning to make all backsplash this dark (I have a big wall above cooktop it’s all open so it will make a kitchen too dark.) So, if you look at the picture I would like to do dark(sand as counter material) on the wall on the right under light cabinets. The wall in the center I will do something else. My question…1. Should I do the return in the right, the corner under light cabinets in the same dark material or should that return match what’s on the center wall (eventually will be something else)

  1. Should I use the same dark material and do a little wall (floor to ceiling) on the left of oven cabinet) or should that piece also match the center wall material. Thank you!

I would not put that material to the left of the oven stack. That wall is not in the kitchen proper and can be treated just like the other walls, like the wall to the right of the fridge.

How far you take the material on the cooktop wall may depend on what you're planning behind the cooktop. If you have any inspiration photos for the cooktop wall, post them in a comment here.

Thank you very for your comment, I don’t know what I want maybe light solid material (approx color as light cabinets, maybe tiles, since but a center wall I think I want it to stand out.

Lana Shulman has more pictures posted here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6339412/additional-pictures-for-my-last-post.

Lana, you have two colors of cabinets, and a very small amount of wall. I think having two different backsplashes will be way too much going on in this space. One light tile for all of it. Or if you've already bought more countertop material, do a short (2" to 6") backsplash with the countertop material, except at the cooktop do a stainless backsplash from cooktop to hood. Paint the wall above the short splash the same color as the rest of the adjoining space.

Thank you all for suggestion. As you can see from one of the pictures the little wall on the left of oven cabinet currently painted (venitian plaster), the plaster was done many years ago do I will never be able to match it to all other walls, and there is an 1.5 inch strip next to cabinet that’s unfinished because the cabinets stopped shorter.

Lana, I’d definitely stay on the lighter side with all backsplash….your kitchen will get too dark otherwise, I think. Here’s a thought re the wall space to the left of your ovens: why not add a narrow pantry cabinet there? Can you take the cabs to the corner? One can never have too much storage space in a kitchen, and it would solve your plaster/paint/backsplash issue there. Just an idea.

I just saw this image. You must use your imagination, but it shows how you could design your cooktop wall; wrap the backsplash to the upper cabinets height from the fridge to the ovens...

    The worst drawing ever, incoming...

Thus is actually what I was thinking…. Wrap the dark like you drew … some people say it’s not good…. Where you drew the white square I am going to have a black glass hood (plain black tilted glass, the one on the picture just without chimney although I think I can build a chimney still)

Lana, I think some folks are saying stay light because you need some contrast and both your cabs and your counters are dark. It is, however, your house, and if you love it dark, the decision is yours to make. Should you find it’s too dark down the road, things can be changed.

Well, Lana said in her original post that she wanted the backsplash above the cooktop to be lighter. I think wrapping the whole area in the dark material as sheloveslayouts proposes would be fine. Certainly much better than two contrasting backsplashes in that small space. Just make sure there is a really good lighting plan.
