Hate it. This comes up from time to time on this forum and I don't remember anyone ever recommending it (dessenters will weigh in if there are any). If you have the option to have it open from the bedroom avoid having it open from the bath.

Bathroom opening might invite moisture.

We have this and I love that hubby can go into bathroom and completely get ready in the morning without bothering me if I am still asleep. Of course we live in a dry climate where there is no problem with excess moisture and we also have good vent fans which turn on when we shower and off when moisture level has gone down. It also simplifies the openings on the walls of the bedroom.

We always hear concerns about moisture and mold, but I don't think I've ever actually heard anyone say they've experienced these problems personally. I'm ambivalent about closets opening into bathrooms, but -- if you're going that direction -- it must be done properly: The closet should be near the entrance to the bathroom; that is, it should not require that you walk the length of the bathroom to reach the closet.

I'd tell you to get brave, post the plan for the entire remodel. It's the better/fuller advice you will get back. That's a guarantee. Note......I said....brave. : ) Upload a legible, to scale drawing. Nothing, not even a primary bath or closet., lives in a vacuum.

That said? Any WIC that has problems with moisture as a bath entry? Has a far LARGER humidity issue with the bath. Still? Post the p.l.a.n. Both options. Include the as is in pictures. Right here in a comment box.

I did not design or choose this, but my two reach-in closets are in the primary bathroom. It is a large bathroom in terms of square footage, but there is not a separate toilet room. Therefore, I can’t get to my closets if the toilet is in use. Pretty inconvenient. However, I have never had any issues due to moisture. I’ve lived with this for 9 years and have no complaints other than the occasional access issue.

I have one reach-in closet in the bedroom and one in the entrance area of the master bathroom. They're both fine, and I have no problem with moisture. We do live in a climate with humid summers, but, you know, air conditioning solves that problem.

No moisture problems in the bathroom due to excellent exhaust fans. Fantech fans with remote motors are incredibly quiet and effective at venting steam and odors. The bathroom NEVER has any condensation anywhere, mirrors never have to be wiped after a shower. I'd never design another bathroom without one.

I wouldn't worry about moisture but would really prefer not to have people walking in on me using toilet or shower. i just don’t understand why people want to deal with this. hard no without a seperate toilet room but i’d raher not have one of those either. if i’m really getting up early and needing to use bathroom without waking spouse i’d be setting out clothing and going elsewhere.

I like not having the closets in our bedroom area, less clutter, more peaceful.

Where do you like to dress? Who do you feel comfortable dressing in front of? Who wants to get in the closet while you're in the bathroom? Do you feel comfortable with them walking through while you're doing bathroom things?

For me, bathroom is private. Period. End of story. So closet opens to bedroom.

I can close the door to my closet and turn on the light and I have a mirror in there. Toilet area has a door too. So it works for us. But without those things, I probaby wouldn't like it so I see your point Jennifer K.

I like having a walk-in closet off the bathroom. As someone mentioned earlier, a spouse easily can get up, shower, and get ready for the day without waking up the other person. My closet has an HVAC vent in it. My husband says the closet is more comfortable temperature wise than an open bedroom After 6 years of living with this arrangement, we have never had a mold/mildew issue. We shower with the door to the closet closed. We run our Panasonic exhaust fan during our showers and about 30 minutes after showering which we would do regardless of the closet location. I live in NC where the summers are humid, but air conditioning handles it.

The issue of not having access while the bathroom is being used might be a problem.

Pretty much anywhere, anyone. Maybe it comes from growing up in such a big family and always sharing bedrooms? I'm pretty cute, and I know it. : )

Notes on ideal placement of bathrooms and closets:

- When you turn on a light in these spaces, you don't want the light to spill across a sleeper.

- You don't want either of these spaces to open right next to the bed because -- again -- you'd disturb a sleeper.

When we remodeled our primary bedroom years ago, had doors put in from both the bathroom and bedroom. We love the convenience and privacy even now that we are retired . No moisture problems for 15 years. Do have good ventilation and AC. Someday when we sell, if the new folks don't like this arrangement, they can easily close off one of the doors.

I have lived in a house with a closet opening off the bath for almost five years and have never had a problem with moisture. However, if you have a choice about opening off the bedroom or bath I'm not sure why you'd deliberately choose the bath. Most people prefer accessing their closet from the bedroom.
