I like the color you chose for the outside. Green.

If your beams are in natural, look at BM November Rain. It will look white, but it has a green undertone, looks great with natural wood and then you can build on that with pillows and rugs…reds and teals.

My husband and i comprised by painting more neutral colors, but then using really colorful accents (pillows, decor, art, etc.). I figured out that my husband was just afraid of committing to color on the walls, but ok with color in other ways.

Go to Home Depot and find a group of soothing colors that can then handle dynamic art and furniture. I recently spent some time at the paint wall at home depot just to get a feel for color you can take as many paint samples as you want. Light sage, sand, creamy and buttery hues, dove white are soft and soothing. If you really get stuck, buy some colors and sample on the walls.

Hiring a professional designer to come into your home for a paint consultation will be money well spent. Depending upon where you live, a consultation can run anywhere from $100 to $300. They usually include samples. Best of luck with your project!

I would suggest you bring in a paint color consultant, who can listen to both of you, look at your furnishings and preferences, and come up with colors which work for both of you. Your dilemma is very common to design professionals. Find someone who listens and asks a lot of questions before making recommendations. Some paint stores have consultants who also will do in home calls, and some independent paint color consultants can be found online.
The color flow in a house is carried not only by paint colors, but also through accessories, upholstery, fabrics, and art. So a professional who can help diagnose your colors and recommend changes which will work for both of you, could be very helpful.
I know in Vermont you have a lot of landscape and "elbow room" but I would think you could find a professional who would drive out to you. Some interior designers are strong in color selection, and some are not, even if they are good spatially. Your local paint store also may know of a designer with a color specialty.
You may find a broader color palette which still works in relationship to the landscape, by looking more closely at color in the landscape.
But some husbands who lean toward blue have a little color blindness in the red direction. If he does have any challenge seeing color, he will have some combinations clash for him, which don't necessarily clash for you. Be sure to ask him if the colors are clashing for him. If he has any "color blindness", what he would enjoy would be additional contrast (in terms of how light and dark colors are) between trim and walls, and between one space and another.

I like the idea of a color consultant, masterworks & creative interiors by kim, and will talk to the paint folks again. We have spent entirely too much time with paint color chips and flyers at Sherwin Williams already, but perhaps someone else can help us get through it.

Sherwin Williams in our area doesn't have in store color consultants, but they have been reaching out to the design community to share how their color decks are arranged.

Whichever paint company you purchase from should be the colors used at the consultation. You don't want to have to have one company try to "match" the other company's colors, because there is no machine yet invented which can see color as well as the human eye.

I work more with Benjamin Moore's colors, because they have more colors, and I work at a local Benjamin Moore store one day a week to help their clients, who may need my other services. But when I have a client who wants to paint with Sherwin Williams, or paint from another company, those are the colors I use at the consultation. Please let your consultant know which company you want to select colors from.
