It looks like something that is strictly ornamental. Usually has a bottom piece for a candle, and can be used inside or outside, although, it looks like that piece is missing on yours. If you want something solar powered there, just remove it, and put up a solar powered light. Make sure, it can get enough sun there to keep recharging, or it wont light when you want it too.

I agree with cat_ky. That fixture was never meant to be a functional electric light. The amount of work, jerryrigging, and cost to convert it is not worth it. Sorry.

yes they have stick on lights with remotes on amazon, but batteries are still going to go out quick. unless you get a lot of sun there, solar wont last long.

Lots of battery operated remote control closet lights avaialble, one of them would give you at least some light. For real light you probably need to pull a wire, which will certaily kill an afternoon.

Since that is not a real light, if you truly need one there you are not beholden to that location then. Put a real electrically-powered and switched light for the lighting you need anywhere around the house.
