Good bones, just need to finish sitting room

We turned our dining room into a sitting room. We usually have a large carpet, but we have puppies that are dog training (excuse the bags for my cleaners). The cabinets hold all of our booze and glasses. I don’t mind the entrance setup, but not a fan of the cabinet with the three small pictures. We are tearing the stairs carpet out and maybe replacing the large picts up the stairs. Any suggestions (big or small) would be greatly appreciated. I think this room could be really nice. TIA

I’d consider painting the accent wall darker. I wouldn’t go as dark and contrasting as some of these, just showing various examples. Something darker on the same strip as your wall color would bring in depth, warmth, and interest.

When you’re able, a rug will make such a difference. Pull the seating in closer together, and more in a circle.

The rest is just tweaking, and finding things you like for accessories.

If you want to remove the vintage white buffet, maybe try the taller brown cabinet there (the one in the sitting area)…. or just hang pretty art with no furniture in that spot.

First thing I notice is that you need a much larger round coffee table and cushier chairs with swivels would be ideal.

Lovely home, lots of room.

Washable ruggable.com area rugs are dog friendly.

agree that more substantial chairs would be nice.

the entry mirror and table seem low... maybe not, is the mirror centered when you look into it? I think the room calls for something much larger.

a larger lamp, something that is at least half the size of the mirror.

the buffet is sweet, a family piece? If the trio of prints is just a place holder, I would hang something more meaningful to you. something on the floor? a plant?

I'd move everthing to one side,

some negative space on the top is good.

The stairway fixture is too small for the grand opening.

You could paint the cabinet a cool color with the 3 pictures above it and get a taller lamp/vase for the right side.

The light fixture you selected is too small in scale

I could reinforce the blue/green color scheme. Not sure how the pink chairs are supposed to work in this home

It's not that you cannot mix styles of furniture, but there needs to be some skill in doing this just like adding ingredients to a recipe. You're not going to put cocoa with oregano.

The round mirror in the foyer isn't the right proportion for the tall ceilings in the room.

The cabinet below the mirror should have been more substantial visually.

It looks like the consoles you have near the front door and the stairs do not match the current decor of the rest of your home. It might be a good idea to look at what style you are trying to do and continue with that. Maybe make an ideabook on here with styles you like from designers you like and then that will help you figure out how you want to do the rest of the space.
