It depends on how many pieces you have to replace. I think stucco would look good, since the windows lean contemporary.

If you do Hardie, make sure you get someone who knows how to do it. If you use clapboards, think about a wider board.

I really like your railing, but I would take the vines off it.

I like the texture of seeing horizontal lines on your house. I think stucco would be a bit boring. I thought Hardie had a part of their site where you could upload pics and try them out. Maybe I am misremembering.

I would not consider stucco. Any irregularities in your plywood will transfer to the stucco.

Cedar should never have been painted. Cedar is an oily wood and should only be stained. You can have the existing finish removed with sandblasting (actually I don't think they would use sand but walnut shells) & new stain applied.

I agree that the horizontal siding is a very nice texture on your home and I would keep that appearance.

I do like this combination of colors below for a house like yours. If you replace with Hardie Board then select a larger width on the siding.

Shades would be another option for siding on the house.

Hardie boards (if installed correctly) last well, but I do not think your house would look right with stucco….wrong style.

Wood siding should last a long time. We have a 100 year old house and most of the shingle are original. My parents built their house 60 years ago. One or two board were replaced after 40 years. Your siding should be fine. If it's not, there's probably some issue, like excess moisture.

I'd fix the few boards that need replacing and paint a slate blue or mossy green.
