Downdraft system

Hi - How were you able to fit a downdraft ventilation system under the cooktop and still have room for drawers? I am facing this exact scenario and need to know whether there will be space underneath for drawers. Does the ventilation take up very little space? I’m used to the big bulky gas downdraft systems. Thanks so much for any assistance!
