Love your inspiration engagement ring. that's really lovely and almost looks like rose gold although that could just be my screen. Personally I love yellow gold, that's what my engagement and wedding rings are however the earring I wear almost every single day are white gold so I love that too. What are you planning for the the band - narrow, wide, simple, ornate - that will determine how much of any metal will actually be visible. I keep going back to look at that ring above - love the way the diamonds are set. Wow I must be in an 'I love it' mood - how many times can I say that!!!

Lol, you are not much help! I'm glad you like the setting. Most rings now are more vintagey looking, but I've loved this type of setting for years. The pic is definitely rose gold, but it was the only photo I could find with that setting. Rose gold is not an option as I've never liked the tone of it altho it is seems to be very popular now.

The wedding band will be fairly wide (5mm, I think) and have a subtle hammered finish.

I'm surprised to hear yellow gold is back. When I got married around 11 years ago, it seemed like no one was getting yellow. (I have all platinum rings (my wedding, engagement ring and a ring I had made w/ my mom's and grandma's stones) because that's what I like, not because of trends -- I picked out my ring from an ad in a magazine when I was 10 and that was the ring I got when I got married at 28, LOL)

Regarding the yellow gold, I've just been looking online and I'm not sure about my jewellers take on yellow trending. I don't think platinum and white gold will ever be out of fashion. My MIL's rings are white gold from 1958 and there has not been a time that they've looked out of fashion (in my eyes, anyways). I know what's in or what's out shouldn't matter, but let's say it informs my opinion to some extent.

That's a very pretty setting. The half bezel has a more modern look than a full bezel.

I'm no help though with picking between yellow or white gold. My original engagement is a traditional 6 prong Tiffany setting in yellow gold with a yellow gold wedding band. Then one year for our anniversary DH gave me an eternity band with emerald cut diamonds set in platinum. It's fairly substantial so I wear it by itself.

That works out well since I don't usually mix metals. I can wear the yellow gold when I'm wearing other gold pieces - and the same goes with the platinum and white gold.

I'm no help either because I would get whatever color makes me happy irrespective of trends.

I had my original engagement ring redesigned in 18kt yellow gold in a matte finish 22yrs ago (around our 20th anniversary). It was also a three stone ring, through a local boutque when a Judith Ripka rep held a trunk show. Due to the design, I do not wear a wedding band. Actualy, I don't wear that ring much anymore, as I upgraded two years ago. It is also yellow gold. Matte finish yellow gold has always been my choice. I've only purchased one white gold ring my entire life. The matte finish is lost over time, and 18kt gold is softer, so it scratches more easily.

In additon to my JR ring, I had two bands made for right hand wearing stack, one white one yellow gold. I've been stacking and mixing for 20+yrs.

You should get what you like, not what is "trending."

The half bezel has a more modern look than a full bezel.

My three stone ring has 4 prong center stone and two bezel side stones. It is more modern ring due to shank design and small bezel. My upgrade is a radiant cut small bezel on a small rounded shank. Very modern.

I agree...get what you love. I have a solitaire emerald cut diamond set in platinum and a simple matching wedding band in platinum to go with it. Regardless of what's in style, I've worn it for almost 45 years now and love it still. The only consideration might be the width of the band given the size of your finger. DH has shorter fingers so I got him a narrower wedding band.

I always just think diamonds look better in white gold or platinum. I started with yellow gold I guess bc it was ”in” 30 years ago, later upgraded to white gold (new band and re-set engagement ring), and finally for 25th anniv got a single wide ”metro” band from Tiffany, which just feels more comfortable on my hand than 2 rings. There is no metal showing on this ring. I mix and match yellow and white gold and/or silver on my right hand.

DS is getting married next month (omg next month?) and he’s wearing yellow gold (my dad’s wedding band) and his bride is doing yellow gold too.

I was surprised to hear that yellow gold is trending. When I got engaged and married 40 plus years ago, that's what I selected and always liked. I did notice over the years that I was seeing it less and less. Glad to be on trend again. :) I wore engagement ring and wedding band every day, all day, never removing them except for surgery when required. That hadn't happened for years.

I removed my wedding band ( it took days of work) when my DD was getting married as they needed a plain sold band ,which mine was, for the ceremony. The one she and SIL had chosen had some design to it so it was not uniform. Anyway, it took so long for me to get that ring off ( soaking my finger in ice water, raising my hand above my head , everything I could think of- it became a challenge)- it honestly will not fit back on. I 've just left it off and only wear my engagement ring. I've thought about getting a replacement wedding band to wear, but I haven't done anything about it. DH 's ring still fits.

I have a platinum band, but I also have yellow gold and rose gold anniversary bands. So, regardless of what you pick, you can mix and match. I’m still seeing a lot of white gold in diamonds I see advertised from Jared. My platinum wedding band and the anniversary bands are from there. They have a really nice selection. I need to take them in for inspection and cleaning.

Try on a bunch of rings, and get what makes you smile when you catch a glance of your hand. You could even buy a cheap white and yellow ring and try wearing them to see how the color works. Do not worry about trends in metal tones.

I have large hands and a large engagement ring, it's 24 kt gold so it's quite yellow. I still really love it even though I go through spurts of wearing it or not. It is large and seems silly to wear to weed the garden. There is a band that matches I dislike it. They are too much together, and the band on its own looks skimpy on my big hands. I want plain thickish band for everyday but never get around to it. I should really prioritize that, as we are travelling to EU this summer and I do like to have a wedding band when we travel.

I pretty much LOVE good pieces & prefer solid 18K yellow gold. Thing is....I found an estate piece that was 14K for the engagement ring. I wanted pear shape. We had just purchased THIS house. It has 2.51 acres...so when the stone popped up as 2.51cts....It was a "must-have". Then I put two other rings with it. An 18K 3-diamond ring by Henry Valon, with swirls, brushed gold & a small single diamond estate piece. I wanted something a little plain...so no side diamonds. When pushed together...the pear diamond sits on top of the other two rings & I should have them soldered together.

I like yellow gold for men's wedding rings and white gold for women's, but I also like yellow gold for women's.

My mother chose platinum for hers and my father's was yellow gold.

Trends are trends and are transitory - hopefully a marriage is not.

Depending on your DH's coloring, I like the look of the gunmetal wedding bands. I think they are masculine looking and stand out on a man's hand.

My rings are platinum. DH’s ring is yellow gold. I think it’s 18k, but I’m not positive. My engagement ring is a traditional Tiffany style but with 4 prongs. The bands that I wear on either side are thin with chanel set diamonds.

I don't know if yellow is making a come back or if it's just another marketing ploy but there have been articles about it on wedding and jewelry websites. Most of the younger women I know wear white - platinum, white gold or even silver jewelry. I've given a few of my yellow gold pieces to my DD and DDIL and told them they could have them rhodium plated or re-set if they wanted. 'Dipping' works best on pendants but isn't recommended for rings since it will wear off.

Salonva - have you considered having your ring enlarged? It's fairly simple if the ring has a plain band. I had to have my original wedding band enlarged. Initially my jeweler was able to 'stretch' it about 1/2 size up. But as I got older my knuckles became fleshier due to added weight and arthritis and finally my jeweler cut the back and add a little metal. Once polished you can't see where it was cut.

But here's a nifty little trick to remove a ring that's too small. DH has done this several times. It can be a little scary since you need to wrap the floss fairly tightly around the finger. But it works.

I prefer yellow gold. I have a 3 diamond ring. The band is yellow gold, but the prongs are white golf. The jeweler who made it told me that white gold is less likely to break and wears better than yellow gold.

When DD married, she had her stone set in white gold. She now wishes it were yellow gold.

I think you should get the color that goes best with your skin tone.

My wedding rings are sapphire and diamonds, one was new (yellow gold) and the other old (white gold) and I wear them together without a thought. They are fairly large so I don’t wear them together every day. The setting you posted is beautiful and would look good in either metal!

Dh asked me to make some Tiffany birthday and anniversaty gift suggestions to choose from and surprised me with all four of my picks, which I mix and match. My favorite combo for daily wear right now is a plain narrow band with a slim diamond eternity band above it and the large Paloma Picasso Love ring above that, all 18 kt yellow gold. It’s a fun, more casual look and for some reason I just love looking at the script.

I have long slender fingers so wider rings look best on my fingers. My engagement band is also my wedding ring and is yellow gold. I also have some other rings in white gold or platinum I wear on my right hand. After I retired I even bought a couple of those wide silicone bands and I wear those when I work out. For one it sends a message I’m married, they are comfortable and I don’t worry about losing the good stuff.

The pic you posted looks like more of a rose gold which was popular way back and seems to be making a comeback these days vs. the yellow gold.

Salonva - i didn't think it would work the first time I saw it. DS was teasing his girlfriend and slipped her ring on his finger. It was all fun and games until he tried to take it off. His finger was swelling and turning red and I thought it would have to be cut off. Luckily DH was home and used the floss technique. He had to wrap it very tightly and DS was complaining that it hurt the entire time. I don't remember if DH said he learned it in med sch or the ER but he's had to do it 2 or 3 times over the years.

The jeweler didn’t say anything about white gold being stronger (I’ve not heard that before) but said that the white gold sets off the diamond better. And while I still adore my rings and love looking at them and would never have changed them bc they match all of my other jewelery AND two of my favorite clothing and shoe shops usually put yellow gold accents on their stuff (Tory and Lilly😊) but gosh.…there is something so gorgeous about rocks set in platinum. That’s what my mom had…so beautiful. Your ring is lovely, and would look equally good in white gold or yellow.

The jeweller does a CAD drawing first, then makes a mold before casting and has us in for consult at each step, so I will have a good idea whether I like it or not before it is made and can change my mind if I'm not thrilled.

You should get what you like! Mine is platinum. I had white gold for my ring with my first husband. Went with platinum this time for the simple ring and for the diamond band. My DH also has yellow gold.

it has been trending for over 10 years. but more importantly-- get what you love!

keep in mind that white gold is rhodium plated to make it look as white as platinum. when it wears off, it the naked white gold is more like "off white". (18k is warmer than 14k.) you can get it replated if you want. personally I went without the replating and let mine go natural, for a touch of warmth. best of both worlds!

or if you want true white and don't want to bother with plating, get platinum or palladium (platinum's less expensive relative).

From my former marriage I had white gold and it leans gray gold white. It does not have any rhodium plating. It is also very light weight. I have always loved the ring.

My history is fairly recent… We had our rings custom-made, and the jeweler gave us a great education about the different metals. I was leaning towards platinum, but he told me that platinum is a softer metal than white gold, and would scratch more easily. Since white gold looks like platinum, that made the decision easy.

My band is platinum. I got it because "everyone" was getting platinum at the time. Now I really wish it were yellow gold, because "everyone" seems to have platinum or white gold. And also because yellow gold looks much better with my skin tone. I don't buy tons of jewelry, but I have been on a bit of a jewelry buying kick in that I have recently purchased a few pieces. All have been yellow gold. But its so subjective. There is no better-- better is what's better for you.

I have always perferred the way diamonds look in a white metal. My engagement and wedding band are both platinum. I've been in a gold phase lately but I still wear my platinum rings with all my other gold jewelry.

And, what is actually in right now is mixed metals. So get those rings in white gold or platinum if that's what you love and wear them with anything and everything.

Our timing is a little off -- our anniversary was yesterday, but I've been busy getting my sister to and through her knee replacement after being bone on bone for 15-20 years. She almost cancelled, but we got her there. I did look earlier, but wasn't sure about the color (yellow or rose in my case -- my engagement ring is a warm yellow).
