Looking for Basement Bar Countertops Advice

last modified: 3 years ago

I would love to get some advice/ideas for my basement bar countertops selection.

Project budget: for 100sq.ft. looking to spend 5-7
Cabinets: reusing cabinets we took out from a built in that was on the first floor. Not repainting because cabinets match some of the basement trim, and don't want to spend extra money on repainting.
Paint: all basement is kept dark goign for the more traditional theam. The rest of the house was brought to a more transitional look (white trim/light grey paint)
Doors: dark wood with black trim
Main bar wall: will have a wood backing with a TV at the center, and 6-8 glass shelves with a light shining down from the top on each row of glass shelves. See finished picture attached for what Im aiming for.
Bar perimeter trim: wood.

QUESTION: to go with black (w/specks of white/grey) or lighter (white/grey, grey/white) countertops?

Personally I think black will look better. But Im trying to convince myself that white/grey may be better and will lighten up the basement a bit.

Bar Ceiling: currently painted dark with a plan to add even darker metalic paint, but if going with lighter countertops would change to white and also white on the bottom of the drop ceiling that goes along the perimeter.

Thank you for all the input!

The back wall will have similar clor stain wood with glass shelves.

Ceiling is currently a few shades darker than the rest of the wall, which could stay as it or could be repainted depending on the countertop color.

The is a two layer bar counter - and I want to keep it this way so there is a bit separation from the rest of the room.

Current furniture will eventually be replaced for something a bit more contemporary. So do not pay attention to the red.

This photo shows a good transition on the the ceiling from one room to the bar. This is were I think paining bar ceiling white maybe better and then add lighter countertops.

This is the look im aiming for.
