I like the fluted opal or the plain globe in opal. I have always been drawn to that pendant- very pretty.

The clear glass is lovely, but with the light on, the exposed bulbs would bother me.

Does the oak cabinets go all the way across behind the island?

If so, you will never look at your range wall standing dead center and from further back as in the renderings. Seated at the island or standing behind, they will be overhead. I would not worry about the opal shade blocking the sight lines to the range. You will mostly look at them from an angle or from the side.

Your kitchen is beautiful. I think you pulled off the three tone cabinets very well and that is not easy!

IMO way too over the top for the kitchen and too big for three.IMO one should line up with the hood and one more lined up with the spacing to be right the second one centered on the fridge . I think you have a pretty modern kitchen and those handles , pulls aetc are too traditional and please do not put much on those ehelves to get greasy and stemed often.I like really good lighting above an island so how good is the light from those ? Pot lights light up the overall space but pendants have double duty thay should look great but above all else they need to function to light the island surface.

I think three 16” diameter pendants would look very proportionate over an 11’ island. Not too big at all.

My island is 7’ and I have two pendents that are around 13.5“. I could have gone with a little bigger, but I like how they look.

I am trying to picture an 11’ island with two pendants that are only slightly bigger then mine. Sorry to disagree with Patricia, but I think that two 16” pendants would look ridiculously puny and disproportionate. Maybe she is saying to use two oversized pendants?

You would need them to be pretty wide to light up the whole island. This is just my own personal oponion, but I really do not like the look of two massively oversized pendants. They seem to draw all the attention away from anything else in the kitchen. Especially if you want the hood to be more of a focal point. Plus some shapes look like UFO’s hovering over the island. 🤭

If you have around double the width of the pendant‘s diameter between each, that would look balenced. I believe that would leave 10” on each end. I didn’t know the width of your island and I am horrible at math, but something like this?

Love the opal - i like the fluted fixture but wonder if it will feel a little busy once your open shelves are filled/decorated? - currently the space is quite spare so the fluting is nice but I dont think it will live that spare

I think 3 more streamlined pendants would complement the space better than the globe pendants.

@rebunky Thanks for your thoughts! And for saying that the three-tone is working (I had a vision and the designer helped but once in progress I was still very nervous about it -- I do think once everything is in it will looked pulled together and cohesive!). What you are suggesting about the size and spacing is pretty much the same as my designer planned (three pendants around 15 inches spaced evenly with the required space from each edge of the island, which is exactly what the Studio McGee guide recommends as well.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting Thank you for your thoughts. I am a bit confused by your recommendation as well. You are suggesting only two lights but saying there needs to be ample lighting, so I'm assuming as @rebunky is that you mean two oversized pendants. Although it can work nicely with a certain aesthetic, I'm never particularly drawn to that look and I'm not sure it would work in my kitchen with everything else going on. I don't want the lighting to be a big statement but I do want them to be beautiful. As for the open shelving, I'm aware of the pros and cons of this and I love the look so I'm not worried about it. And for the hardware, I think the vintage look can balance out the more modern aspects of the kitchen and I've seen this done in many other kitchens with success. Although I am toying with some slightly more modern hardware and have ordered samples of several.

@Elle when you say more streamlined, can you give me a description of what you are referring to? I'm open to other options.

I'd go with the opal glass. Pendant lights do double duty as both decorative and task lighting so you don't want to throw too many shadows as you might with seeded or clear glass.
