I'd say the native Confederate violet, Viola sororia f. priceana.

Viola blanda or sweet white violet ... native to the north-eastern US and south-eastern Canada.

in suburbia.. i was a lawn warrior.. and everything but grass had to die ... yippee ki yay .. etc ... lol ... [nod to bruce willis without the cussing...lol]...

moved out to 5 acres.. on sand.. which i could not fert nor water.. and darn if the violets were one of the few things still green when the rest of the 'grass' browned out in july and august...

go figure.. it was valuable..

cecily 7A , I hope your neighbor first gives you his blessing before you dig up the violets in his yard. Why don't you grow them in your own yard? You can simply grab some seed in the summer and sprinkle it throughout your front or back yard. You'll have a nice crop next spring. No need to relocate them.

Silly, of course I'll ask permission before digging in his yard!
