i don't need a tv anywhere, but i have one in the kitchen... It's so fun to cook, eat, drink coffee... and watch the news!

I would love to have a TV in the kitchen and watch it while I cook!

If you enjoy watching the news while cooking, or if you have a favorite mindless show at mealtime that you enjoy watching, great ! Of course cooking shows and DVDs on cooking are wonderful as well.

I have a 27" on the wall in my kitchen that I love! It is great in the morning while drinking coffee at the bar....and at night sometimes if there's something we don't want to miss during dinner. My kitchen is open to the living area where there is also a tv. During the super bowl last year it was great! We had both tvs blaring and it was pretty exciting. Football in stereo....lol! (I love football!) The best thing was that we had company and I was back and forth doing food things, so I didn't have to miss any of the action!

I really want a TV in my kitchen in future.
Now I stay at kitchen at least 1 hour everyday.
If your husband doesn't want it, you can put a laptop, removable.

I don't see anything wrong with a TV in there, especially if you "live" a lot in your kitchen. I wouldn't put one in a formal dining room, but a kitchen? That's fine. A big eat in type kitchen is half family room, anyway.

The most used TV in my house is the one in the kitchen. Wall mounted, it is the best idea I ever had!

I like watching TV while cooking, but I don't feel the least need to install one in the kitchen. I just bring my laptop in, open it on a counter, and turn on Netflix streaming or Hulu or PBS Masterpiece Theater or any of the numerous sites that you can now stream TV programs to your computer or ipad. That way you can watch what you want, not what happens to be on at that hour, and you don't have to devote precious kitchen space to a television.

They make under cabinet mounted TVs that flip up when not in use. That maybe a good compromise.

Have you thought about a tablet for the kitchen. The ipad has been great for watching shows in the kitchen and for access to my recipes that I've put online. Then I also don't have to worry about mounting it.

There is a lot of decent fold away hardware. That said, I agree with the ipad notion entirely. If you have a subscription service and your home is wireless, it's a great way to go.

If he doesn't want a TV in the kitchen because he spends lots of times in there talking with you and wants that to be together time, then I would understand no TV. But if you spend a lot of time in there alone, then I'd get a TV and turn it off if he comes in to talk with you. I'd bet he doesn't turn off his TV when you come in to talk with him.

I say ditch the tv, but I also live on a farm, and do not watch any tv.

Ditto on the iPad, while the size is not going to work for family viewing, I love it for cooking websites, music and you can stream the telly on it if you need to, as Feeny mentioned. There are a few nice compact ways to hold them, that take up very little room. Plus you can use it as a digital photo album for pix of the kids...or hubby ;o)

I love the idea of a TV in the kitchen mainly because I love cooking shows. I actually never watch TV unless a cooking show is on. It's fun to cook along with the recipe that is being demonstrated.

Go for it. We just reno'd and put a tv and siting area in our kitchen. it has become the hub of our house,

I think is is personal preference. Are you trying to see how many people comment a certain way so u can prove your point to your hubby..lol....if you need to see the tv/news before you go to work in morning then yes put one up. I was always taught you don't have tv in kitchen bc it's family time and you don't have one in the bedroom ;)

I agree with your hubby. I have lived without TV for nearly nine years now and I enjoy life more. I don' t need or miss the drama and negativity that is almost constant on TV. I also prefer to spend time during meals actually having conversations with my family. Pick up a hand craft and work on it while waiting for the water to boil or put a stationary bike in your kitchen, you'll get two things done at once!

iPad / tablet / laptop is a great alternative to a TV - it can be moved around according to what space you're not actively using for prep/cooking, and it's very convenient for recipe lookup, or Internet radio in the background.

It's a VERY good idea to have a screen protector, to guard against water splashes and airborne grease. Better yet, a water-resistant case - Lifeproof makes a good one.
