I consider them to be Shaker with a rounded edge.

To my eye these Shaker family cabinets are beautiul cabinets. From what I have read, wood cabinets are increasingly featured in kitchens. I agree that the refrigerator is what is problematic.

Sort of a plain shaker-ish recessed panel. They are a little unusual.

We on the web can't see them well enough to know if they need paint so I'm not going to second guess you. We can't even tell if they are real wood! They do photograph well. :P

You have beautiful on-trend shaker cabinets. I'd recommend new door and drawer hardware, a warmer backsplash and rugs. Replace that fridge will make things look great. Check out the Kitchen Aid 36" counter depth french door fridge.

Honestly, we do see a lot of wood cabinetry screaming for a paint job here on the Kitchen Forum but yours are truly the nicest I've seen (belonging to someone wanting to repaint, that is). Whatever you decide, you cannot go wrong with that door style!

recessed panel with a narrow edge frame . very nice cabinets ...the wood stain plays up the more subtle frame/ and edge. I'd leave the wood alone. Do other things if you must "do things" . a bigger rug under the table/ a new fridge/ new counters? / new hardware/ new light fixture/some chrome roll outs in the base cabinets......painting the cabinets wouldnt show on a list of " to do's " if I were making a list.

These are recessed panel cabinets. Not everything with a recessed panel is shaker. I would not paint them

While they are very nice cabinets IMO they clash with the flooring. Painted cabinets would not. I agree with another poster - the black refrigerator doesn't go well with the whole mix.

The only thing not working well together in that pic is the sad goth refrigerator in a room full of warm and happy brightness. That warmth uses the foundation of the wood cabinets to build that cozy brightness. Absolutely do not paint them!

Beautiful and timeless, the countertops too. I even like the 4 inch backsplash. Those are being shown again in classically styled high end kitchens like Plain English.

Thank you everyone forall the great responses! We are already going to replace the fridge with stainless, but with a counter depth, we don't have enough space to store everything.

We had the floors refinished in natural because we had thought we were going to pain't the cabinets SW "cloud white" I guess we should have waited on that flooring.😔 I will look for a larger rug to start with and then a larger backsplash. Countertop is "green typhoon." Not sure what backspash to go with that. The idea

for wall paint is behr "Sawgrass" or PPG "veil of dusk."

Neither the countertop or the cabinet color are my style. The rest of our house is an airy nature theme, think lots of plants, cream color walls, etc. That's why we were talking about painting the cabinets that light color cause it picked up some of the whiter parts of the granite. . 😉

Counter depth fridges are the best! You don't lose things in the back.

I will definitely consider counter depth fridge.. and the glass tile.sounds good.

As far as painting, I should have said earlier that my husband is a professional painter and will.be spraying them. So it wouldn't look like DIY..will put off the decision for a bit while considering the change of color. Thanks everyone!

Nothing wrong with the new natural stain on your floor. It works fine with your current cabinets.

The issue IMO in your kitchen area is everything you have placed around these lovely kitchen cabinets. There is where the change needs to occur.

Can you see the difference with some bolder choices? The paint colors..............well all the paint needs to be changed even if you don't want to accent the brick fireplace. Your walls are pinkish and that's not good.

Are you supposed to have a table and chairs in the middle of a walkway? That seems very odd. Maybe you could explain that to us.

Put the older fridge in the garage or basement or pantry if you've got one. My sister had her's in the mud room and that worked great

Agree that the fridge is the elephant in the room. We don’t miss the “lost space” in our counter depth fridge. If you have a large family and need the space, put this one in the garage. It makes sooooo much difference to the kitchen to get the floor space back. Your floors look great with your existing recessed panel cabinets. Don’t bother with paint on the cabinets.

I would not paint those either - they are beautiful. They also tie in with the narrow wood window trim and that on the half wall. And wood definitely says nature theme.

The natural floors look lovely and are perfectly fine with those cabinets, which I like very much. All you need is a counter depth, stainless steel fridge. I have one, and I don’t miss any storage. Who needs stuff jammed to the back of a fridge anyways?

I was able to capture back a lot of space in my fridge when I installed a beverage cooler under a countertop. Holds a lot of beverages.

Can't help but to agree with everyone else....those cabinets are beautiful! Wood is on trend. Change out the refrigerator, hardware, and add a new backsplash that goes with your style.

They are on trend style and wood wise. It would be a huge mistake to waste money on devaluing your kitchen.

Agree with everyone on not painting those pretty cabinets. I would call those shaker style. Close enough for me.

But minus the small table. I see it might not be exactly blocking the hallway, but is maybe in front of doorway to the right of the fridge? Pantry? The way it blocks the wide open entry into the kitchen does look a bit odd.

It's a very wide galley style. The larger space at end of kitchen goes left into a hallway, front into family room and right out patio door. So the space needs either a table or something there to keep it from looking so bare.

We have done some things to that other room after taking that original pic I posted. I just used that pic to get an idea about the cabinets. I still think the lil table needs to be there or something else cause the space is weird without something there.

I have floors and cabinets similar to yours, the kitchen faces north, and the whole house has stained wood trim. I had my oak cabinets painted 2 years ago and it made a huge positive difference - visual interest and something different than so much brown wood color. Good luck!

Definitely looking into counter depth fridges and new hardware for now. Gonna be a couple months before we get to painting the cabinets since we are working on other things. I know that most people like the wood look, and somehow it's back in trend. Resale value doesn't mean much to me cause we just bought this house less than 4 months ago and don't plan on reselling for many years. By then we will probably be back to light and bright being on trend 😉

Also have a space similar to yours near door - transition from kitchen to breakfast area to family room? I agree a table is needed. I was trying to tie in white/wood/black that is in the kitchen - knowing I'm mixing styles :)
