Bedroom thoughts?

I originally thought plantation shutters would look great above the bed. Now I'm wondering if it looks too plain? Does it need more? What would help? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Larger nightstands and lamps would help.

Larger moldings around the window as well as above comments?

The shutters are nice! Just a few inexpensive things……move the lamps down to the night tables. They look too high where you have them. Get two square euro pillows with white shams to put behind the pillows you already have there (as shown in the photo Maureen sent). Two small pieces of artwork on either side of the window ( don’t hang too high). Place a throw or a blanket across the foot of the bed.

I hate plantation shutters anywhere and IMO above a bed way too heavy looking. I agree the lamps are useless the tables are too small and I happen to love drapes in bedrooms and I have wll to wall ones behind my bed . Wall colr usually driven by the bedding , in this case not so much. You need bedding now with the blue and the beige of the rug for sure. Maybe something like this and then nice drapes behind the bed in a blue to match the wall

@Patricia Colwell Consulting. it would be nice if you soften your tone. People come to the site looking for advice. Being told by professionals that they “hate” their choices and find them “useful” is disrespectful and unnecessarily harsh. I wish you could find a way to provide more gentle feedback.

heather641 … I agree, why is the gratuitous comment re the shutters even made ? i happen to love plantation shutters, had them in a previous home throughout. BTW I dislike drapery but wouldn’t make that comment re them on here.

I had plantation shutters over my tub in Florida. They were great for privacy and light control. I didn’t worry about ruining beautiful, expensive fabric. The problems in your bedroom can easily be fixed by following the gentle and kind suggestions of larger lamps, tall headboard, etc. it’s going to be a pretty room, you just aren’t finished yet.

If you don’t want drapes there you could try a fun stick and peel wallpaper on that wall, but make sure the pattern doesn’t clash with the bed. And I’m not sure I agree with Patricia re. “wall color must match bedding”; obviously you don’t want colors that clash, but as long as you have bedding that is neutral (or blues that go with your walls) you should be fine. (We have a guest room with a dark blue accent wall behind the headboard, but my bedding in there is white with some gray and lighter blue. The colors are not the same, but go very well together and it looks nice….at least I like it.) Yes to artwork and larger tables/lamps, and poss. bolder window trim.

Given the earlier more helpful suggestions you are well on your way to a restful space. For it to come together even further, it may be that the pillow slips are too navy blue for your wall. Looking at the doona cover, it has grey and navy on the white back ground so I am suspecting the slips are the matching set which uses the blue from the cover. The cover itself works well, so you could use the grey as a solid tone in your slip cover - which will connect with the grey valance and not fight with your wall color.

I like the shutters especially in a bedroom. They are easier to clean then dealing with drapes.

Open the shutters a crack and they will look better.🙂

Here are two bedroom designs we have done. Take a moment to note the window treatments used. Perhaps leaving a little bit open at the bottom might help?
