Liftmaster 3265M intermittently won't close

When I attempt to close the door, the lights blink 10 or so times. Fortunately, the wall door closer will override the problem and close the door if I continually hold it. Rather inconvenient when leaving the house, but good workaround.

This has been going on for a few months and it is driving me crazy. The book says either the LOCK button is on (it isn't) or the Reverse Sensors are unaligned (they aren't). The sensors are signalling sending/receiving fine.

Today I opened up the light cover so I could expose the Diagnostic LED and observe flashes. And of course, then the door closed just fine.

Any ideas what would cause such an intermittent problem. The unit is about 10 years old with no other problems to date.

When it works, it works for a few or several days then off for a couple. I replaced all the batteries in the remotes and I thought that did the trick for a while but it was just a coincidence.

I can't reach the plug on the ceiling to reset it but we had a power failure a couple of weeks ago so that should have reset it fine. Other things to try?
