Something is eating my hens and chicks!!

Was out putzing around in my garden earlier, dodging between rain showers, and noticed a container of hens and chicks, Sempervivum tectorum, have been munched on! I grow assorted containers of these scattered somewhat randomly through the garden - have for years - and have never had this happen before. Most of the rosettes have had their centers chomped off, leaving just a few mangled lower leaves :-(

What the heck does this? I guess deer are a possibility but deer have been very scarce in my garden since recent construction nearby. And there is a lot more tastier treats close by I'd assume they would go to first and they are untouched. Bunnies are a possibility but this is a tall container and they've never bothered any container plants before.

Guess it's time to get the repellent spray out for the season!
