Remove all the bulbs and see how that looks. I am not a fan illuminating a house for the sake of illuminating a house.

The point of nighttime lighting is security, not a welcoming hand. I've noticed that the high-end streets near us are very well lit nowadays. Though it still doesn't impede daylight carjackings.

You can always use flickering gas lighting. Now, too, there are LEDs that mimic the rustic look.

I never thought about security. But then again most of my clients have guns with night vision scopes, and own a mean dog.

Could the security lighting be achieved with recessed lights with a translucent or filtering cover, that soften the glare but still light just the close-in area?

1. Do the lights have motion sensors to control them or is that planned/possible?
2. What are the diameter and depth of the housings (cans)?
3. Do the housings have a socket at the bottom into which a bulb is screwed like this:
