IMO wall color is usually one of the last decisions to make . Your furniture the floors the natural light all have aeffect on wall color. I use this cu 25% for IMO a true neutral if you are being pushed to paint now. I think Balboa Mist is a nice color but not IMO a neutral since it has a violet undertone which can be a real issue.

I like to have a general color palette selected before I decide on any finishes. You may already be beyond this point, but the sooner this is done the better.

If you are building a spec home you have to use colors that will work for anyone walking into the home.

If you are building your dream home, you want the colors that will work best for you.

I start with the colors that make your heart sing.

We all have favorite colors that we tend to purchase over and over again, clothing, jewelry, towels, bedding, wall art and décor items.

I started with this as I helped my siblings and their families choose colors for each of their homes.

The colors that I love are different than the colors that my sisters and sister in laws or nieces love.

If you look around my home and the art that I own and the things I have bought you will notice that purples and wine reds are the most common colors often with some teal greens mixed in.

My sister loves fall colors, tons of greens, with orange red accents and gold accents.

My one sister in law loves soft pastel colors (goes beautifully with her blond hair and blue eyes). She has lots of soft cornflower blues, pale yellows and peach.

So when I help them select flooring and cabinets and countertops and wall colors we want to start with the colors that they love and find the right neutrals that will be the perfect backdrop for all their things.

Violet gray and Taupe (somewhere between pink beige and violet gray) are the best neutrals with my purples and wine reds.

Violet Gray and Taupe look pink and sickly next to my sisters greens and oranges, but Greige (Green undertones, gray/beige) and green grays work really well with her things. Greige looks muddy next to my favorite colors).

Both of our color palettes are strong colors and the neutrals we picked don't work well with the soft pastels that my sister in law loves. A soft creamy white makes her colors sing.

Do you have a sample cabinet door you can post a picture of? Have you looked at it in the lighting you're going to have? A lot of colors die in northern light. Mushroom has the potential of looking drab in northeast light, but without being able to see it I don't really know what color that is. If you can't change the cabinets at this point I would advise a warm white for the wall color. Look at paint samples next to the sample door and your flooring. IMO Balboa Mist is too dark and will look muddy in northeast light. It looks better in stronger, warmer light. If you haven't already heard of Samplize.com, they sell peel and stick samples for all the major manufacturers and they're larger than paint chips so they will give you a better idea of what the color looks like.

The kitchen cabinets will look like this one, this is not our actual one.. lighting will have some recessed lights, love these pendents for the kitchen 2 or 3 over the bar, and 1 over the kitchen sink area. We will buy the peel and stick samples to see how it will look., and here is the hardwood floor, the counter top will be a white of some sort.

You window view makes me feel like home. I know there are lots of waterfront properties, but yours, with the winter marsh, looks like Cape Cod.

Thank you! the floor is actually more brown, but my camera makes it look blue.. its definitely not grey in the floor.. heres a better picture of the floor..The tile is going into the 1/2 Bathroom..

i used ralph lauren's Loft white paint for my north facing room. i loved it. the floors were red oak 2" wide in a concentric square pattern.

Lighting will make colors come to life or change the look of a color, but we look at colors next to each other and our minds compare them to each other.

Your cabinets are mushroom - mushroom has a lot of pink tones.

Your flooring has some pink tones, but is not nearly as pink.

You are going to have to test a lot of colors to get the one that will work with both your cabinets and flooring.

City Loft is where I would start my testing.

You can see below how green balboa mist is next to the cabinets.

The best way to see if a color is going to be too yellow, too pink, too green . . . next to both the cabinets and the flooring is to take both outside around 2:00 in the afternoon on a clear day and look at paint samples next to each.

Inside with interior lighting the two tiles below looked pretty similar, but wall colors were not working in both rooms. When you see them outside in natural daylight the pink tones in the kitchen flooring became much more obvious.
