The blanket is lovely!! I would keep all your pillows a cream color so they would not “compete” with your blanket, the “star” of the room. Your room looks comfy and inviting.

Your pillows are too large and need interesting patterns. With a lumbar it has to be the right size or will feel lost (may need a pillow on each end) and don’t be afraid of mixing for a more dynamic look. I found these on Pinterest by searching “mountain rustic lumbar cushion” and there so many great options. Instead of lots of colors, I think a graphic pattern would be eye catching, but not take away from the blanket.

Take the blanket OFF the cocktail table, fold and arrange on sofa back : ) Add a black, large tray to cocktail and accessorize.

Oh my, I love Pendleton blankets and yours is a beauty! It looks absolutely wonderful on your ottoman.

You can add anything you like with it, that’s another great thing about Pendletons. They just sit there looking awesome; nothing will take away from it. :D

I think that looks amazing, but I don’t know if you like the idea of florals being mixed in. If nothing else, it shows how the Pendleton takes center stage no matter what is paired with it.

@Jilly. WOW I would’ve never thought of those pillow patterns but you’re SO right, they all mysteriously work great! Thank you for introducing a floral as well as the plaid. We’re close to what TN calls the “Highlands” and historically the area was Scottish and Irish so those prints speak to the history. The carpet is a very simple and muted Asian floral, hand tufted mostly cream with a handful of clay/rust accents so a more bold floral could work well and would com-lime t the carpet. Such great options, thank you!

@Maureen. Thank you for mentioning the scale issue, I agree. The pillows are brushed cotton, almost velvet (both sides) from Pottery Barn and I got a great deal so I purchased 4 so I could have two for the per couch. I love neutrals so they can have a home elsewhere if needed. I really like the graphic pillows you pictured. So many great ideas from you ladies…thanks so much for the help over the creative block I have.

This photo is under dim light, my apologies. I do love how it looks in the room, the flooring is a pale travertine, so there’s flow of color but warmth and a little pattern interest in the seating area. I really tries to decorate with a respect for the location and it’s history. This was a heavily occupied Cherokee location and the Pendelton blanket (along with others in my collection) are either historic or part of the Native American College Fund. The one on the ottoman represents gifts of the earth, and that’s where the clay color comes into play. The chair in the photo is the wildcard, it’s 18th century Scottish from a castle and a nod to the Scottish immigrants that came to work the coal mines here. So with all those muted patterns, I was at a loss regarding the couch pillows but you all helped me so much.

@kayculbers. Thank you so much! Yes, we LOVE the blanket and agree that it really adds a lot to otherwise calm and simple space. I do love having it on the ottoman, one because of how it’s center stage and also that it sort of tells people to be careful with drinks/food in the space 😬. The carpet is a one of a kind and the ottoman is covered with an amazing linen. There are other spaces in the house that welcome more wild relaxing but I believe guests also like to feel special and be in beautiful spaces once in awhile and I wanted this room to be both inviting and special. @Jan Moyer. Thank you for the comments. I would normally hang the blanket over the couch as you mentioned but these are Stickley settles and the back of the couches are gorgeous and don’t want to cover them. I might change my mind one day, especially if I find another amazing Pendelton blanket that coordinates with the one on the ottoman so I’d have one for he other couch. Then I’d probably eliminate pillows completely and place a huge tray on the ottoman as you suggest. You’ve given me something to think about as well. Thank you.

The blanket is nice, and it looks good in there. Since your rug is patterned and the blanket differently so, I’d probably not do florals and look more in the direction of what others had suggested above by Maureen and olychick…..but that’s just me.

So you ladies have me thinking…maybe I just add another graphic blanket in the space…hopefully this red is deeper and not at bright…and then find a lumber pillow in cream that’s smaller/better scale. This blanket’s name is water which is perfect since we’re on a creek. What do you think?
