Thanks @BeverlyFLADeziner! I guess I am hoping to make the height decision once they are received and I can see them in my space. Just hoping to be able to adjust the rods of these pendants myself and hear from someone who has had success doing so.

We have the Visual Comfort Sarnen and the lighting store adjusted the length before we picked them up. We made the bottoms 36” off the counter.

I just ordered a number of Visual Comfort fixtures (love their quality, from what I've seen.) I was worried about adjusting the height for my island light (the Brindille XL), until my KD and the lighting store designer guided me to the install guide and we did some math on different combinations of the downrods. (As my KD pointed out, they won't ship the light with the downrods all assembled.)

Looks like it has two downrods: 11.25 and 8.25. Do either of those work for you alone, heightwise? For example, using the 11.25 downrod makes the fixture 39.75" high (24" shade + 4.5" canopy + 11.25" downrod) which would be 68.25" off the floor. If you have a 36" high counter, that would put the bottom of the fixture at 32.25" above your island. (36 island + 32.25 space + 39.75 light = 108".)

If you use the 8.25" downrod, your total fixture height is 36.75, which would be 71.25 from the floor and 35.25 above your island top. Make sense? You could do mockups of the lights (balloons, paper bags, whatever) hung on string to see which height is comfortable.

If neither of those heights work, then you may need to order a custom length downrod. OTOH... we found out that the downrods can be cut down and re-threaded. (We have a local hardware store that does that kind of thing.) Not sure if you're comfortable with that approach.

@chicagoans This is SO helpful - thank you so much!! Im thinking the 8.25" downrod will work (my husband is pretty tall, so the higher the better I think). I'm relieved to hear this adjustment can be made after purchase. I'm in love with Visual Comfort lighting!

My designer found a picture of the Brindille XL in a magazine, and I immediately got sticker shock. But then everything I saw afterward just didn't wow me... we now refer to it as "the chosen one." That led me to other VC lighting, and I'm getting some Cristol sconces and flush mounts, and a Fecetta pendant for the entry. I'm so looking forward to seeing everything installed!

chicagoans, Not as pleasing as the VC but these are only $359 and $249 and not $7k. If you have someone who is handy, you might be able to piece together a shape you like.

I've ordered the Brindille, and luckily get a nice discount through my designer. I'll post some pictures when my reno is done! (But we're gutted right now... so it will be awhile.)

Hi Jen M. Your kitchen is beautiful! I am considering Goodman Pendants with the brass lining like yours. Do you find the down light casts yellow from the interior of the shade?
