Grumble grumble. Me too. It's time to replenish my supply of Tide Free and Gentle powder laundry detergent and there is none to be had in store or at the usual online retailers. wth?!

Isn't it generally regarded that liquid detergent-be it Persil or any other brand leads to problems with both the machine and overall cleanability of the laundry items? Not to mention an increase in plastic filling up the landfills as more bottles are bought. That alone makes it undesirable for me.

It's still available at my local mega grocery but now everyone has me worried it's been discontinued.

I just got confirmation from P&G coprorate that our beloved Tide Free and Gentle Powder was discontinued in Spring 2023.

This is terrible news so stock up on what you can find folks!

How crazy, that is the only Tide product that made it in the B section of EWG's rating system. I love it so much for my sheets and towels.

I hope this is not the beginning of a major change in manufacturing. I had been meaning to try the F&G as we are always fighting our dog's allergies. I would be crushed if I had and found it helped. Maybe they are getting ready to introduce a product meant to take F&G's place?

armjim, while it's still around, ALL Free Clear powder is still available on WM dot com. You can give that a try. It's doubled in price since I last bought it. The box is very small, but for our pets, it's worth it. I found that powder to work well. A tick below the Tide FG powder, but good. The A&H George showed above might be good. I've not used that one, but those of us who used Tide FG powder will have to start finding alternatives. Grab Green, on last check, makes powder pods in fragrance-free. I really like Grab Green detergent but in our top load Speed Queens it's not economical. I have bought lots of the lavender variant for dd over the years. It's her favorite for sheets.

I've been suspecting the end of powders for several years...it does seem to be a real possiblity, sadly. It's been slim pickins for a long time already, and it keeps getting slimmer. I wish I could read the meeting notes explaining the reasons behind getting rid of all these powder detergents over recent years.

There's always Charlies Soap, free of enzymes, scent, and OBAs. It works well, but whites will get dingy after a while.

You would think manufacturers would continue to make powder detergent. Number 1, every time I try to use liquids, my washer starts smelling. I guess that's why washing machine cleaners are so popular. Number 2, don't all those 'green' groups realize that using detergent in plastic bottles is not good for the environment especially if recycling is not available?

elbits, I dutifully fill up our recycling can every week and haul it to the curb for pickup on Wednesdays. Knowing that most of its contents are not going to be recycled and reused. My understanding in my area is that it is paper and cardboard that may be recycled, but the plastic and glass and tin cans will probably just become a mountain in a warehouse (they do encourage us to put them in the recycle can). I even rinse out the containers to assist the folks who have to sort this stuff. To your point I wish liquid products only came in packaging that is easier on the environment.
